I've been hankering to do some world design, make some maps, and play some DnD. I figure some of you would be interested in at least one of those things.
I spent about 30 minutes putting together a new map at which point I realized it would be interesting to populate the map with things from character backstories to drive the world.
If you're interested in playing, post your character backstories, and what times you're available to play. We'll pick through see what meshes where and populate the world. If you're not interested in playing, but want to help populate the world, just throw me some content and tell me you're not interested in playing!
I'm interested! Any relatively lavish cities with multiple noble families, that might have jewels ripe for the stealing? I think it would be fun to play an illusion-based rogue or rogue/wizard.
Interested in playing as well! My character is a Drow Sorcerer with Draconic archetype who idolizes Drizzt Do'Urden. He travels the world to help those in need. However, he doesn't use his magic when others are near him due to tragedy that occurred in the past. Instead, he uses his crossbow given to him by his mother mainly as his means of fighting.
Btw, I'm also a newbie player in DnD and I would be open to suggestions regarding character modifications since I'm not sure about my choices. Thanks! :)

That map is super dope! I like the Mediterranean looking area; it would be a sweet location for a port city of sea-faring adventurer/pirate/explorer type characters. Plus big trade cities or capitals always have interesting crime or political sub-plots.
I could totally see playing a tomb raiding artificer outta that area.

Absolutely, I'd imagine there'd be at least three or four fairly lavish cities, although one would certainly specialize in the gem trade (right? Like a Debeers family of the DnD world?)

That sounds like a blast, what sort of tragedy are you thinking occurred?

Hey thanks! Love making maps. A port city sounds great, like one that facilitates trade? Do you think there should be a rival group like a "pirate city" that competes with the navy of the trade city, or should they just be infiltrating the port city?
I always thought about doing an Aiel like people from Wheel of Time. The monk class meshes decently with the fighting style.
Aiel are awesome, Wheel is one of my favorite series. So you're thinking a kind of "grey morality" honor based society that has laws very different to those of the rest of the world, but lives by them to a T? Come to think of it the Seanchan would also be really cool to include in some capacity.
Exactly. Instead of failing the Aes Sedai maybe they failed a God/Goddess and they were banished to some harsh environment and because of it the Wise Ones are Warlocks instead of divine spell casters.

I'm kind of thinking that there was this one time where his mother and father were on the surface. While they were travelling, they were ambuhed by humans and his mother chose to sacrifice herself so that the father can escape. Because of this, his father swore to slaughter every human he see. Then, on his 100th birthday, his father, now a part of the High Council, tasked him to kill a certain human family as a right of passage. However, knowing in his heart that this is wrong, he chose to disobey his father's orders. His father was enraged due to his choice, and he moved to kill the family himself. In order to stop this, my character casted a spell to incapacitate his father. Still being inexperienced in magic and not having control yet of his draconic magic, his spell got out of control which accidentally killed both his father and the human family. After this incident, he is now in conflict about using his magic due to his guilt. He travels the world alone to find answers to his conflict and still tries to save others. Instead, uses his crossbow, which was given to him by his mother, whenever there are others near him. :))

Ya, I think making a city that is heavily based in trade could give you cool political drama. Think like game of thrones: merchant edition, the families that control each trade of course trying to edge into each others markets. I think it could give your players a cool place to play around as people that have public image are usually willing to pay adventurers to do things they cannot. Also, when the wealthy are involved it usually means the impoverished are in need of help so it could cater to heroic characters as well.
As far as the pirates go, I think they could have their own place in a trade city--having struck deals with ruling families to ensure safety or enforce while also trying to take bigger and bigger shares of the wealth. Of course naval combat could be cool; I have no idea how it would function mechanically.
The map looks great, I've personally been kicking around this Idea of nomadic albino Orcs who are all cast out from the largest Orc homeland ( A large island they'd conquered centuries ago. ) who mostly keep to themselves and move between a few islands that make up an archipelago but send some parties to Main continents for trade. Each Orc goes through their own Pilgrimage upon being expelled from the main society and must bring something of value to the group in order to be accepted in order to keep those who are weak from 'tainting' their clan, and they're actually quite prideful deeming them to be strong enough to be made different and convincing themselves they were cast out to protect the power structure of their kin though it mostly stems from a belief that they're inferior in some way and that their weakness made them not even worth their usual green pigment.
My character would definitely stem from this group though I haven't made a decision on class or much beyond this backstory, but I'm definitely interested in exploring it in this world you've thought up. I'm free most days except Friday which is entirely unavailable for a session for me.
I'm definitely interested in playing. Only one thing I want to ask: I wanted to try a specific race NOT in players handbook, but on http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/, called the Changeling ( http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Changeling,_Eberron_Variant_(5e_Race) ). I understand if that is a no, and then I would chose a race given to us from the DnD Player's handbook.
I exist on the PTZ, normally available after 5pm everyday of the week.
Thank you for putting this up! I didn't know of a version of the changeling other than from the wiki-homebrew! The version you showed me is much more fair than the other one!

Interested. I have a family of elves interested in populate, and a pair of variant humans. Does this world have underdark?
Videogamer and Tabletop gamer. DM in learning process
There certainly could be, why not?
I'm definitely down. Would you be DM, and if so, is it ok that I've never played 5e?
Your friendly, neighborhood Templar!
I'm more than happy to DM and I love teaching new players 5e!

There is an unearthed arcana that covers a the eberron races of shifter, changelings and warforged.

No problem. I figured it would be more balanced and easier for the DM's palette
