"I am the Guardian of the Azure Tower. I've been here since the old times, when Giants ruled the land around, building wonders that changed the world for good... I've been here also when the Others tried to reach from the Other Side, destroying what it was... and I witnessed how the dragons betrayed the Giants trust and brought them to the brink of extinction. Time has been my worst enemy, as it takes away everything around me. Whoever speaks the Great Language is a friend of a friend, and as such I won't hurt you the way I do with selfish intruders looking only for gold and silver and stones. You must know, though, this tower was built for protecting important things from the Giant Empire. Try to sneak something that doesn't belong to you and you might unravel the wrath of the Ancestors!"
Lerithyn, is able to deduce the handle in the middle of the inner wall will activate a limited teleportation effect, probably to a pre-selected destination inside the Tower. As he approaches and examines the details of the runes, the voice can be heard again.
"There are only four intact areas now: a sublevel, the 22nd deck Conservatory, the 38th deck Research Laboratory and the 50th deck Dining Hall. Whatever brings you here, it must be in one of those, as the other ones' contents are lost to time and intruders. As I said, be careful, though: Giants created lots of protections for their valuables, as they didn't trust each other that much."
"Well now... sublevel it is then?" Lerithyn points to the clockwork control panel on the wall and says, "I assume we're to point this to the floor we're intended to go. I can't read Giant though, so I can't tell which of these would be the sublevel." He motions to the lever in the center, "We then pull the lever and it should teleport us to the destination we chose. Shall we give it a try?" He stands aside for someone that's able to read the runes to set the destination and gives the remains a quick look-over for any fancy trinkets. Moving closer to the lift, Cassiel acknowledges Lerithyn and Auksn: When Master Aukan says I am ready to go, Lerithyn. And about which floor we should look at, I think that by Master's Ilmo tale the gem came to be lost here after the fall of the mighty giant civilization, so I think it would be prudent to ask the Protector the order of the last remaining places where visited.I am thinking of retracing the steps of this "Others" to findout what they were doing here and I do think the chances are that the jewl was brought here by one of them.
"The others would likely be the spirits of the Kalashtar, the Quori, who once held a very long war with the giants, long before the Kalashtar came to be. Given the wording that the Guardian used, It is unlikely that the Others are House Ghallandra. Investigating which floors were last accessed would be a good idea though, Cassiel."
Turning to the lift, Ra'sakar starts speaking in Giant. His dialect is closer to that of the lift than Aukan's is.
"Guardian. Can we hear the records of levels visited in reverse order, and if known what the visitors did on each visit?"

"To much and more" Stribog nodding along as everyone jumped on the giant langauge. He sat down on a nearby stone and pulled out a small flask filled with an Elven wodka called "Spiritus." He took a shot and felt the liquid burn too his core.
With that he put the flask away and calmly waited for his companions to finish their work. He himself was eager to move to the next point but was also wI'll in to wait and take in the scent around them.

"The Others: The invaders, the corruption made flesh. Enemies of everything that lives. They came from the other side, but were banished by the Elder Gods before they destroy everything. The rulers of the sea, the sky and the land were able to transform their corruption, and summoning the dragons, they were able to destroy the Others. Unfortunately, I don't keep any record on the visits, as I am not able to see them, just listen to them and reply. But if I can tell you are no friend of the Giants, I will not allow you inside the Tower. Up and down you will go, but not out."
Aukan can distinguish the runes as different descriptors: the rooms mentioned by the lift are there, among many others. To activate the lift it will probably will require just to point to your destination and utter a key word in Giant, such as "Fangerl" (take me) or "Kom" (arrive).
After marking the sublevel (the rune would mean something like "ventilation") and saying "Fanherl" (take us), everyone inside the lift feels a little sick just for a split second before its doors open again.
In the vast basement in front of you, a feathery white elemental ring surrounds what appears to be an enormous copper engine. Dozens of thick pipes sprout from the engine and disappear into the walls. The only decoration is a draconic signet on top of the doorway the adventurers just crossed to get out the lift and in this sublevel. Within the engine are a pair of bound air elementals that generate fresh, breathable air for the entire tower (which windows are totally closed as you now recall). If the engine were destroyed, the Azure Tower would quickly become suffocatingly hot and unfit for habitation.
Looking at the scene he is taken aback in awe. "What is that White elemental?" Stribog asks the group hoping someone will have an answer. "It seems wasted here." He begins to look for an opening of some sort hoping that it will lead to even more secrets.

Lerithyn nods his approval of the massive engine and the ingenious engineering behind it. He decides to inspect it further, checking the size of the vents (can anyone fit in them?), the directions they go (do any go down?), how stable the system is, if there's any tamper defenses. He goes over the whole system with a fine-tooth comb to better understand how it operates.
How interesting - Cassiel mentions - This bound Elementals makes one think of the Zilargo Gnomes and the constructs that were commissioned by the houses, like the Lighting Rails and the Lyrandar's Air Ships.
Trying to keep away from everyone path, to allow them to search thoroughly the area, but cannot stop wondering: Master Ilmo, would you think that your people learned their elemental binding rituals from Dragons as probably the creators of this tower did?
As a second thought: It just occurred to me that this level might have been built with the help of dragons, for it is marked with a draconic signet...
"Hah. The Gnomes learnt the secrets of binding elementals from my mother's people, the Sulatar drow. Or rather, they stole the secret. The sulatar learned it from the giants who taught them. I doubt the tower was built with the direct aid of dragons, but most Giantish magic came from the dragons."
Ra'sakar notes the source of breathable air, deducing how the tower prevents would be thieves from escaping - they likely die of asphyxiation on their way to the elevator.

I am sorry Master Ra'sakar, I do not know much about your people and it's dealings with the other races, I meant no disrespect to you or to your people, and am sorry to bring up a subject that might be antagonizing to the party. Cassiel replies.
Barachiel in mind comunication: Cassiel you should try to ask about the lore of this place and continent and not assume much for by doing that you can cause discomfort between your companions.
Adriel replies: You should not care at all about the lore of nothing this weaklings consider to be great or impressing for it is nothing compare to what I know and have done!
"What I tell you is not common knowledge on Khorvaire. From what I understand, based on the tales the Sulatar teach, Zilargo claims it as their own invention, since most have never heard of us Sulatar. I can hardly hold a lack of information against someone. I doubt even most gnomes know the truth. Hardly antagonising me, and I only intended to inform you of what I am taught to be the truth."
Ra'sakar grasps his right arm as he says this, right below where the fiery tattoo that covers it ends, as a silent reminder to both himself and those around him that he carries the blood of the fire binding tribe in his body. Noting the silent discomfort crossing Cassiel's face, that he has come to associate with Cassiel's inner voices, Ra'sakar opts to send a telepathic message, for this message he feels doesn't need to be shared.
I know you find discomfort in my telepathy, but I thought that you might want your secret intact. I can help you with some mental exercises to dissuade unwanted voices tonight, though it might take a while for the exercises to take effect.

"There are as many theories about the origin of elemental binding as there are stars above during the night...but what is certain is that Zil gnomes perfected the technique. This ventilation system is obviously very rudimentary. Zil gnomes would never let the elementals to be seen from outside the device, and we would always have failsafe mechanisms. All it takes to send this Tower to the hells of Fernia is to set these elementals free... which makes me think that whoever attacked this Tower wasn't precisely smart."
And having a look around, he feels they all are in the wrong place.
"You know, I don't think anyone would store any valuables in here."
"What the Zilargo did is prioritise form over function, and extrapolate fire to the other elements - Sulatar fire binding is far more powerful than Zilargo binding because Zilargo spread too thin the knowledge on the topic that they still didn't have a full grasp on, and decided that aesthetics were as important as minimal functionality. If you had a clue about binding, it would be obvious that it was designed so that the elementals could be released. The tower told us that those who oppose the giants don't escape. Did you notice that all the windows were sealed? If those elementals leave that engine, we suffocate. That is clearly intentional. Though I do agree that we seem to be in the wrong place. The Sulatar would want their prize to be high up, not low down."
Ra'sakar gets angry as the gnome implies that gnomish knowledge of binding didn't come from the Sulatar, a believe he was raised with.

"I agree with Aukan. We might as well move on from this place." Standing next to the control panel for the elevator, Stribog looks perplexed, "How does this thing work again?"

Thanking Ra'sakar with a genuine smile, Cassiel then hears the exchange between Ilmo and Ra'sakar and feels that it was his fault for bringing the subject up.
To Aukan he Says: I think it is best to work our way through this great building starting farther from the entrance and finishing closer to it, since we are here for the Gallandra heirloom and as soon as we find it we will probably need to leave to continue on our journey.
When spoken to in Giant, the elevator replies.
