technically not, attacks on prone creatures have advantage against them and while pinning a creature you still are technically grappling them, advantage and disadvantage cancel each other so having two instances of advantage means that you can still attack with advantage it's just that other creatures can also attack you with advantage not counting the creature you're grappling

No you either have advantage or you don't and once you do, it's cancealed if you also have disadvantage, reglardless of the numbers of times you have any.
Advantage: If circumstances cause a roll to have both advantage and disadvantage, you are considered to have neither of them, and you roll one d20. This is true even if multiple circumstances impose disadvantage and only one grants advantage or vice versa
Grapples can be made more effective if allies apply damage over time effects on the space occupied by the grappled creature. burning oil, create bonfire, moonbeam, the outskirts of flaming sphere and other effects could all be costly for something that can't move.
If it's as simple as lightly grabbing someone, why does it cost a full action?
It doesn't, it costs 1 attack. A quick grab takes as much time as a single punch. That is why it isn't a full Nelson or other hold/pin.
There should be better options for moving to holds/pins after the initial grab (other than the terrible grappler feat), but you'd have to homebrew that.

I meant besides that. That, but cooler. Something worth taking a feat for. Or even *dramatic pause* using a second hand.
You could always choke them and then it should follow the rules for Suffocating, but without the part about holding their breath since they’re already choking.
A creature can hold its breath for a number of minutes equal to 1 + its Constitution modifier (minimum of 30 seconds).
When a creature runs out of breath or is choking, it can survive for a number of rounds equal to its Constitution modifier (minimum of 1 round). At the start of its next turn, it drops to 0 hit points and is dying, and it can't regain hit points or be stabilized until it can breathe again.
For example, a creature with a Constitution of 14 can hold its breath for 3 minutes. If it starts suffocating, it has 2 rounds to reach air before it drops to 0 hit points.
In that case, grappling would take the of one of your attacks within an action. So, if you can attack twice with one action, grappling would be considered one attack, then you can attack your grappled target once!
I like the homebrew suggestions

Once they’re grappled, shove them prone.

Or skip the grapple and shove them prone then use your second attack to stab them with advantage, then let all your buddies stab them with advantage.

If they’re grappled their speed is 0 and they can’t stand up unless they break the grapple.

This is an instance where a player who has multiple attacks on the attack action really outperforms a creature that has multiattack.
