Find Your Party: D&D Partners with StartPlaying for 50th Anniversary Play Events

One of the biggest hurdles in playing Dungeons & Dragons is finding other adventurers to roll dice with. This year, we’re partnering with StartPlaying to make it easier than ever to join others at the table, and we’re kicking off this partnership with the free release of the one-shot adventure Descent Into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth.

Below, you’ll get a closer look at StartPlaying, as well as the free adventure you can claim and play starting March 26.

StartPlaying is an Online TTRPG Game Finder

Artist: DOMENICO CAVAAdventurers gather around a table to play cards and gamble.

StartPlaying is the largest platform for finding tabletop roleplaying games run by professional Dungeon Masters. To help us celebrate our gold anniversary, StartPlaying will be hosting special D&D play events throughout the year.

Starting March 26, you’ll find DMs on StartPlaying running Descent into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, the first in our series of free adventures based on D&D classics.

How to Get Started on StartPlaying

To find a game to join, navigate to the site’s game listings. There, you can filter through listings by such things as when sessions are run, how long they’re expected to last, and even the cost per session.

When you find a game you like, you can click through to its game page, where you can learn more about the adventure, the Dungeon Master running it, character creation, and more.

You’ll need a StartPlaying account to apply for a game. DMs will have their own methods for evaluating players and may lead a session 0. If you want to try out the platform, use this referral link when you sign up for a new account for $10 off your first game.*

* The above offer is managed by StartPlaying (a partner of Wizards of the Coast) and is not controlled by Wizards in any way. We cannot guarantee its availability. For details on how to redeem that offer or any other questions you may have about the StartPlaying service, please reach out to StartPlaying.

Jump into Play with Descent into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth

Delve into the former lair of the legendary archmage Iggwilv the Witch Queen, survive the enemies and traps that await you, and claim your fortune of new magic items in Descent into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth! This adventure for 9th-level characters can be completed in a single play session.

Descent into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth will be free to claim with your D&D Beyond account starting March 26. It is an adaptation of a Gary Gygax original that has been updated and will appear in the upcoming adventure collection Quests from the Infinite Staircase. It comes with optional tournament-style rules just like the original, so you can see how your party measures up against other playgroups!

The adventure will be ready for play in Maps—a D&D Beyond VTT—and include pregenerated characters so you can hop into a game with little preparation. We’ll have more information to share, including how to claim this adventure, on March 26!

Early Play at Gary Con and PAX East
