You can find trade work between adventures sufficient to maintain a modest lifestyle (see “Practicing a Profession” under “Downtime Activities” in chapter 8 of the Player’s Handbook).

You can also find other common folk like yourself at your local pub. Finding out about local rumors or work is not hard for you.
