Base Class: Monk
Monks who follow the way of Arcane Diversion are able to use their Ki to affect the flow of a spell. They are considered a bane to casters, and in magic rich areas are often employed as a last ditch resort in detaining a caster.
Though they are not casters themselves, they are able to use their Ki to affect the energies involved in the casting of a spell, most often in ensuring that a spell does not harm allies.
Trained Eye
3rd-level Way of Spell Diversion feature
You gain proficiency in the Arcana and Insight skills.
Spell Catcher
3rd-level Way of Spell Diversion feature
Your ki can redirect the flow of spells. As a reaction, you can spend 1 ki point to redirect a spell or cantrip you are the target of, reducing the damage by your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier + your monk level.
If you reduce the damage to 0, you can redirect the spell to a new target. If you do, spend 1 ki point to make a ranged spell attack using the same reaction. You make this attack with proficiency, regardless of your spell casting ability. The new target must be within 30 feet.
When you use your Patient Defense, you may replace the disadvantage with a use of this feature without spending a ki point. When you do, Patient Defense ends.
Interposing Ki
6th-level Way of Spell Diversion feature
You are particularly dangerous to a caster when in combat. While you are within 5 feet of a creature casting a spell, if that spell does not target you, they have disadvantage on the attack roll.
If the spell has no target, and instead targets an area, you may use your reaction to force the caster to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, you may change the location of the spell's effect by an amount of feet equal to a roll of your Martial Arts die in any direction you can see.
Tangle the Weave
11th-level Way of Spell Diversion feature
You can now use your ki to disrupt the flow of magical energy in an opponent. Whenever you use your Flurry of Blows, if your opponent is a caster, you may spend 1 Ki point to force the target to make a Constitution saving throw. If it fails, it is unable to cast spells other than cantrips until the end of its next turn.
Ultimate Diversion
17th-level Way of Spell Diversion feature
Your Ki now is able to bind itself to the aura of others. Any creature within 15 feet of you has advantage on saving throws against spell effects.
Additionally, you are able to redirect a spell that targets a creature within 15 feet of you to target yourself.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
