Base Class: Warlock
You serve the mistress of science, the greatest patron of them all! Nothing compares to the beauty of the universe unfolding before your very eyes as the mind untangles mysterious hitherto unsolved. Are we living in a simulation? Is this one of many universes? Is there such a thing as free will, or are we all puppets dancing to a tune we cannot hear?
Curiosity drives you. The truth is the greatest treasure in the universe! Some call you mad, but they simply fail to recognize your genius for what it is. You'll show them! You'll show them all...
But science is a capricious god, and failure is as common (if not more so) than success. Who can predict the results of an experiment? And so what if things explode sometimes, how is that your problem?
Always Prepared
Cats have nine lives, but scientists have but the one! Unless they are revivified or reincarnated or become a revenant or rise as undead...but you get the idea. Precautions must be taken. You remain alert at all times, just in case anything is about to explode, and thus cannot be surprised.
Researcher
You learn a lot by poking at things with sticks. Follow that instinct! You gain proficiency in investigation and alchemist's supplies.
Oops!
When you roll a one on a spell attack, your magic explodes! You and any creature within a 5 ft radius takes 4D6 fire damage. The damage increases by 2D6 at 10th level and again at 14th level. Hey, sometimes spontaneous combustion happens.
Twisted Mind
Your mind is an unfathomable labyrinth! And like any labyrinth, it's dangerous to any visitors unfamiliar with all the nooks and crannies. Your thoughts can’t be read by telepathy or other means unless you allow it. Any creature that attempts to read your mind must make a wisdom spell against your save DC, taking 3D12 psychic damage on a failure and half as much on a success. You also have resistance to psychic damage.
I've done it! I'm a genius! MWAHAHAHA!
You learn the spell resurrection and can cast it once per short rest without expending a spell slot. Whenever you resurrect a creature this way, roll a D20. If you roll 5 or lower, the alignment of the character changes. Good becomes evil, chaotic becomes lawful, and any neutrality the creature once possessed is shattered (if the neutral character is a PC, they choose their new alignment.)
