Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Like the mythical phoenix, you can invoke fiery energy and gain the ability to cheat death itself. This power comes at a cost. The fire within you seethes, demanding to be unleashed. You sometimes find yourself absentmindedly feeding fires. You can’t bear to allow a fire to sputter out. You feel most comfortable while holding a lit torch or sitting in front of a campfire. More importantly, this gift comes with no special protection from fire. You are as vulnerable as any other creature to fiery magic, including your own. Phoenix sorcerers can use their powers to pull themselves back from the brink of death and all too often their own, rash nature or reliance on destructive magic is what puts them there in the first place.  Such sorcerers are wanderers by necessity. The volatile nature of their magic makes other folks nervous. If a fire breaks out in the town, a phoenix sorcerer had best flee, whether guilty or not. Fire is a dangerous force, and phoenix sorcerers have a reputation for reckless behavior, confident that the essence of the phoenix can save them.

Phoenixtouched are unique in the fact that their flames have special properties depending on the "Season" of the phoenix their powers originate from.
Autumn Phoenixtouched can have life-draining fire, Winter Phoenixtouched can have cold fire, Spring Phoenixtouched can have healing fire, and Summer Phoenixtouched have typical fire.
The most common Phoenixtouched are Summer Phoenixtouched, as summer phoenixes are the most common (approximately 9 out of 10 phoenixes are summer phoenixes).

In order to awaken your Phoenixtouched capabilities, you must die. If you succeed a DC 10 will saving throw, you are reborn with color hair/feathers representing your Season of Phoenix's flame colors (vibrant green for Spring, pale white for Winter, etc.). This does not need to be made if your character starts off with this subclass.

Season of Phoenix

At 1st level, you choose one Season of Phoenix as the type of Phoenixtouched you are. The damage type associated with each Season of Phoenix is used by features you gain later. Your Season of Phoenix is dependent on the Season the phoenix that gave you your abilities was.

You may replace any spell's fire damage with necrotic damage in exchange for 1 sorcery point or take 1d10 necrotic damage instead of using a sorcery point.

You may at will ignite any flammable object that is in your hand. The heat is mild and deals 1 fire damage whenever a creature touches it, and at the start of every round if a creature is still touching it. However, the fire may grow in heat in exchange for sorcery points; 1 sorcery point or 1d10 for 1d6 more fire damage. Additionally, you may choose to take 1d10 fire damage instead of using 1 sorcery point.

Summer Phoenixtoucheds' fires are a dark orange with angry red and honey-colored yellow appearing in the center.

Winter Phoenixtoucheds' fires are a pale white with light and occassionally dark blue mixed in around the edges.

Mantle of Phoenix

As the power of the phoenix flows through your body, it causes traits of your Phoenixtouched nature to surface. Your body becomes covered in flame, the type determined by your Season of Phoenix.

Starting at 1st level, your hit points decrease by 1 per sorcerer level whenever you activate this feature. In exchange, you may cause any creature that touches you to take 1 damage per sorcerer level; the damage type is determined by your Season of Phoenix choice.

You cannot activate this feature while wearing heavy armor, as that restricts your lightweight phoenixlike nature.

Due to the tendencies of your phoenixlike nature, you occasionally activate this feature on accident after a short rest. After each short rest, roll a d20. If you roll a natural 1, this feature is automatically activated. Additionally, you cannot disable this at will until you reach level 16. It has to be doused. At level 18, this fire can extend to cover long items  you are holding (spears, swords, etc.).

Phoenix Sparks

Starting at 6th level, you gain the Metamagic option Phoenix Sparks.

When you cast a spell that deals damage of the type associated with your Season of Phoenix, you can spend 1 sorcery point or take 1d6 damage (damage type is determined by Season of Phoenix). After you choose to do so, sparks fly off of you towards one creature within 50 ft of your choice and deal your sorcerer level + 1d6 damage unless they succeed a DC 10 + your CON modifier DEX saving throw, in which case they take no damage. The damage type is determined by your Season of Phoenix choice.

Additionally, you can make it so that you spend 3 sorcery points or take 3d6 damage (Season of Phoenix determines type) in order to make the sparks target an area of 10 ft around you in a sphere instead of targeting one creature. They must still make the DC 10 + your CON modifier saving throwing, and take no damage if they succeed.

Phoenix Wings

At 14th level, you gain the ability to sprout a pair of phoenix wings from your back, gaining a flying speed equal to double your current speed. You can create these wings as a bonus action on your turn. They last until you dismiss them as a bonus action on your turn.

You can’t manifest your wings while wearing medium or heavy armor unless the armor is made to accommodate them, and clothing not made to accommodate your wings might be destroyed when you manifest them. Additionally, you are only able to use this feature if Mantle of Phoenix is active.

Phoenixtouched Mastery

Beginning at 18th level, you completely mastered control over your Phoenixtouched abilities, allowing you to use one of the following special abilities that is an embodiment of your Phoenixtouched nature.

Additionally, you no longer have any armor requirements on your Phoenixtouched features, you no longer damage any armor/clothes/items on you when you use your Phoenixtouched abilities, and you no longer accidentally use Mantle of Phoenix after short rests.

Fiery Rebirth

Beginning at 18th level, you can completely master control over your Phoenixtouched abilities, allowing you to become reborn after death. If you die, you explode into unnaturally volatile flames in a 10 ft sphere that deal 4d10 radiant damage, or half as much on a successful DC 10 Dex saving throw. This sphere of fire lasts for two minutes, after which it gathers itself up again and you are reborn with all curses, illnesses, injures, conditions, etc. removed and you are at half of your max hit points (rounded down). Fiery Rebirth may only be used up to once per week. If the 10 ft sphere of fire is put out, then your rebirth is cancelled and you die.

Frostfire

Beginning at 18th level, you can completely master control over your Phoenixtouched abilities, allowing you to switch cold damage and fire damage for any spell or Phoenixtouched feature that you use without using sorcery points or taking damage. This excludes magic items. If a magic item affects a spell you cast not via the magic item, you may still swap the damage types.

Additionally, you no longer have any armor requirements on your Phoenixtouched features, you no longer damage any armor/clothes/items on you when you use your Phoenixtouched abilities, and you no longer accidentally use Mantle of Phoenix after short rests.

Phoenixlike Form

Beginning at 18th level, you can completely master control over your Phoenixtouched abilities, allowing you to turn somewhat phoenixlike. This may only be activated if Mantle of Phoenix is enabled. Your arms become large fiery wings, giving you a flying speed equal to double your movement speed + 10. You grow talons from your legs which have a +8 to hit, have a reach of 10 ft, and deal 2d6 + your sorcerer level in fire damage. If you die in this form you automatically succeed 2 death saving throws, with advantage on the third. If you are hit with a melee attack while in your phoenixlike form, a burst of fire shoots out towards your attacker in a 5 ft cone that deals fire damage equal to your sorcerer level if they fail the DC 12 DEX saving throw.

Additionally, you no longer have any armor requirements on your Phoenixtouched features, you no longer damage any armor/clothes/items on you when you use your Phoenixtouched abilities, and you no longer accidentally use Mantle of Phoenix after short rests.
