Base Class: Barbarian
Path of the Frost Shield
In the frozen north there are few wandering herds of individuals that have been able to survive the tyranny of the eternal winter. Even fewer still have claimed this ruthless cold for their own. Unlike the power that flows through their core, these barbarians are gentle souls that value kinship and kindness between themselves and their families and companions. That kindness propels them to defend those they consider close friends. They focus their will into massive stone walls that they construct themselves to project this force of frost, either imparting disadvantages to the enemy or providing safe haven to their allies.
When using certain abilities you will need to make an attack using a different modifier than normal and other effects have DC’s attached to them.
Frost save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your constitution modifier
Frost attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your constitution modifier
The Glorious Ram
At 3rd level your shield becomes a stone wall with a ram’s head on its face. This shield is treated as a +3 shield instead of a normal +2 shield and can be swung as a bludgeoning weapon dealing 1d6 + your strength in damage.
Winter's Bite
Also at 3rd level, you can charge your shield with cold energy forming around the ram’s head and launching a blast of ice at your enemies. Make a ranged attack using your Frost attack modifier and on a hit you deal 1d8 + your constitution modifier in damage, as well as force them to make a constitution saving throw to fight off the effects of the cold. If it fails the target loses half its movement speed and has disadvantage on dexterity saving throws until the end of its next turn. You can use this feature a number of times equal to half your barbarian level + your constitution modifier rounded down per long rest.
Stand Behind Me
Starting at 6th level you can leap to an ally that is being attacked as a reaction with a distance equal to your strength modifier x 5ft. Once you land you shove your ally behind you and can use the same reaction to summon your wall of ice using the Unbreakable feature. You become the target and the same attack roll used against your ally is compared to your armor class instead. You can use this feature a number of times equal to half your barbarian level rounded down per short or long rest.
Unbreakable
A wall of unbreakable ice forms on the surface of the shield and expands to a greater size. At 10th level you can command your shield to create a wall of ice 10ft tall x 10ft wide x 5ft thick as a reaction to you or your ally being attacked as long as they are within 5 feet of you or behind you. When created the wall will completely absorb the first attack to hit and give you resistance to any attack for as long as the wall is up. If an ally is the target of a ranged attack and your shield covers them from the attack you become the target instead. The wall lasts until dispelled as a bonus action but while it stands you move at half speed and can only make unarmed attacks and use Winter's Bite. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your constitution modifier per long rest.
Glacial Fissure
You slam your shield into the ground with tremendous force causing the earth to crack under your strength and a great tundra causes the ground in that area to freeze over. At 14th level as an action you can create a fissure in the ground 30ft long and 5ft wide. Any creature caught in the epicenter of the attack must make a dexterity saving throw or take 3d6 bludgeoning and 2d8 cold damage and be knocked prone. If a creature is within 5ft of the epicenter it also has to make a dexterity saving throw but is not in danger of being knocked prone. All creatures within the area of effect are slowed to half their movement speed. On a success a creature takes half damage and isn’t knocked prone. The effect last for 1 minute but can be ended early as a bonus action and can be used a number of times equal to your constitution modifier per long rest.
