Base Class: Fighter
To a soldier the battlefield is a place to display your courage, expertise and bravery. It is a test of skill, a noble contest. If there is one thing your average soldier dislikes it's a spell caster. They change the rules of combat with a single muttered word or wave of the hand. After all no amount of arms training can prepare you for a fireball to the face.
So it is that many military forces have begun to train soldiers to combat such sorceries. Chosen at a young age Mage Killers are specially trained to combat and disable spell casters. Long years of training allow them to enhance their natural resistance to magic.
A Mage Killer will have a particular aversion to magic, a hatred bred into them throughout their training. They will shun magical items if at all possible and avoid travelling with spellcasters, preferring the company of other soldiers.
Magical Resistance
You have a natural resistance to the effects of magic and have advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects.
Anti-Magic Fighting
When you choose this feature at level 3 you gain an ability depending on your chosen fighting style.
Absorb Magic (Dueling)
You can spend 6 hours engraving a weapon with runes. Whilst using the weapon you may use absorb elements as a reaction when targeted with a spell, this doesn't count as a spell for casting and ignores all verbal, somatic and material components. You may use it 3 times per long rest.
Brute Force (Great Weapon Fighting)
Whilst using a weapon in two hands against creatures with magically generated resistances or AC, you may add 1d4 to any successful attacks. This damage increases by 1d4 at 7th, 11th and 17th level.
Eagle-Eye (Archery)
When a creature within 100 feet of you casts a spell you can use your reaction to make an opportunity attack on it using your bow.
Frantic Fighting (Two Weapon Fighting)
When you successfully attack a creature concentrating on a spell, whilst wielding a weapon in each hand, you have advantage when trying to break their concentration.
Magical Lodestone (Protection)
When a creature within 5 feet of you is targeted with a spell that designates only one target, you can use your reaction to change the target to yourself.
Slippery Skin (Defence)
When you are targeted by a spell that designates only a single target, you can use your reaction to change the spells target to another creature within 5 feet of you.
Arcane Knowledge
Your long studying of spell casters and their magics has given you great knowledge of the arcane. You have proficiency in the Arcana skill. In addition you can sense magical traps within 15 feet of you and have advantage when attempting to disarm them.
Silencing Strike
When you make a melee attack against a creature you can choose to use your bonus action to attempt to silence the creature. You make this attack using your Dexterity and are proficient and on a successful hit the targeted is rendered unable to speak until the start of your next turn.
Deadening Field
Your very presence deadens magic around you. No creature within 15 feet of you (including yourself) can cast spells and all magical traps and items cease functioning whilst you are near them. Enchanted weapons and armour revert to their base statistics whilst in the field.
Powerful Essence
Once per long rest if a spell would reduce you to 0 hit points you can choose to use your reaction to remain on 1.
