Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

One of your ancestors bore witness to a phoenix’s resurrection and formed a bond with the magical creature.

The resurrecting flames still course through your veins, surging with power.

The phoenix is a celestial creature of sky and primal fire, and its blood within you sings with a similar power.

Phoenix Spells

Starting at 1st level, your connection to the essence of the firebird changes your form in not so subtle ways. You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Phoenix Sorcery table. The spell counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn't count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.

Vestige of the Firebird

At 1st level, as a bonus action, you can surround yourself in a whirl of magical flames. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:

  • You shed bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet.
  • Any Creature that successfully attacks you takes 1d6 fire damage. Creatures that enter a space within 5ft of you,  or end their turn there must make a dexterity save, taking 1d6 fire damage or half as much on success. Unattended flammable objects also catch aflame by this effect.
  • Whenever you roll fire or radiant damage on your turn, the roll gains a bonus 1d6 damage.

At 11th level, the extra damage to your attacks increases to 2d6.

Once you use this feature, you must finish a long rest before you can use it again, unless you spend 1 sorcery point to use it again.

From the Ashes

When you are about to fall into death's embrace, the force within you awakens in a blazing corona, bringing you back from the brink.

Also at 1st level, if you are reduced to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction to instead be reduced to 1 hit point and each creature within 10 feet of you takes fire damage equal to your sorcerer level + your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1).

If you use this feature while under the effects of your Vestige of the Firebird, this feature instead deals damage equal to your sorcerer level + double your Charisma modifier, and your Mantle of Flame immediately ends.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest, or you cast a spell of 3rd level or higher that deals fire or radiant damage.

Burning Renewal

The forces of Creation and destruction are yours to command.

At 6th level, when you expend a spell slot to cast a spell that deals fire damage, you can choose to instead heal your targets. The spell deals no damage, and living creatures affected by the spell instead regain a number of hit points equal to half the fire damage the spell would normally deal.

Phoenix Force

At 14th level, when a creature within 30ft of you drops to 0 HP, you can use your reaction to expend 5 sorcery points to infuse the target with primordial fire. This effect requires your concentration. They must still make death saving throws, and they suffer the normal effects of taking damage while at 0 HP. If they would die due to failing death saving throws, they don't die until you drop concentration on this effect, and they can die then if they still have 0 HP.

Form of the Phoenix

At 18th level, you finally gain a semblance of mastery over the furious spark that threatens to consume you. While under the effect of your Vestige of the Firebird feature, you gain additional benefits:

  • You have a flying speed of 40 feet and can hover.
  • Fire damage you deal ignores resistance and immunity is treated as resistance.

If your From the Ashes feature is triggered, it gains the following additions:

  • its range increases to 20ft
  • you instead regain half your max HP
  • it deals an additional 20 points of radiant damage
  • You can use it twice per long rest.
