Monk
Base Class: Monk

The Edgedancers considered it their solemn duty to remember that they were servants of the people, and saw it as their duty to care for the ordinary people of the world. Before the Day of Recreance, the Edgedancers often had permanent assignments to live in towns across Roshar, providing healing with the Surge of Progression and otherwise assisting the community. Despite their lack of interest in high society, they were often the most graceful and refined of the Radiants.

Though they became renowned for their deadliness, when forced into battle, the Edgedancers preferred to function as medics or rescue trapped allies. When they fought, however, they were considered some of the most graceful fighters.

The Edgedancers form Nahel bonds with cultivationspren, and use the Surges of Abrasion and Progression.

First Ideal

3rd-level Order of Edgedancers feature

Your care for those that have passed or have been forgotten has attracted a cultivationspren to your side. As if drifting on the winds of memory, the words of the First Ideal come to you: "Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination." You gain proficiency in the Acrobatics and Medicine skills, and you gain the Nahel bond to your cultivationspren.

Cultivationspren takes the form of a vine that grows rapidly. This vine appears to be speckled with smooth flecks of quartz.

Surge of Progression

3rd-level Order of Edgedancers feature

The Nahel bond has gifted you with the Surge of Progression.

Your control over the Surge of Progression can mend wounds. As an action, you can spend 1 ki point to touch a creature and restore a number of hit points equal to a roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier.

When you use your Flurry of Blows, you can replace one of the unarmed strikes with a use of this feature without spending a ki point for the healing.

Surge of Abrasion

3rd-level Order of Edgedancers feature

The Nahel bond has gifted you with the Surge of Abrasion.

You use your Surge of Abrasion to manipulate friction. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can spend 1 ki point to deal extra force damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die + your Dexterity modifier. You can use this feature only once per turn.

Second Ideal

6th-level Order of Edgedancers feature

The Second Ideal manifests as your need to remember those that have been forgotten. Your Nahel bond improves, granting you stronger control over your two Surges.

When you use Surge of Progression on a creature, you can also end one disease or one of the following conditions affecting the creature: blinded, deafened, paralyzed, poisoned, or stunned.

When you use Surge of Abrasion on a creature, you may expend an additional ki point to lower the ground's friction. The creature must make a Dexterity saving throw, or be knocked prone.

Third Ideal

11th-level Order of Edgedancers feature

Once you speak the Third Ideal, your Nahel bond strengthens yet again, allowing your cultivationspren to manifest as a Shardblade.

As a bonus action, you can expend up to 3 ki points to manifest your cultivationspren as a Shardblade for 1 minute. It may take on the form of any monk weapon of your choice, and is considered magical. The Shardblade has a bonus to attack and damage rolls when you attack with it. The bonus equals the number of ki points you spent.

The Shardblade is also considered to be a Returning Weapon, allowing it to return to your hand immediately after it is used to make a ranged attack.

Fourth Ideal

17th-level Order of Edgedancers feature

You have spoken the Fourth Ideal and may now manifest Shardplate from the ever-present lifespren. It has no weight and is not considered real armor. Instead, it provides a stronger connection to the two Surges.

As an action, you can manifest your Shardplate, upon which you may choose one of the following effects:

  • Ultimate Progression. A pulse of healing energy radiates out in a 30-foot radius. Allies in range will recover a number of hit points equal to a roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier.
  • Ultimate Abrasion. You and the ground around you in a 30-foot radius become frictionless. Within this radius, it is considered difficult terrain to enemies. You gain +2 AC and advantage to Dexterity saving throws. This lasts for one minute.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
