Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Gods make a lot of enemies, and they don't always want to deal with them themselves. Often, they'll choose an unofficial champion, an Avenger. The passionate warriors given this boon turn their fury into literal burning vengeance, striking fear into the souls of their victims.

Blazing Rampage

Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, your enemies suffer your burning wrath. While raging, whenever you hit a creature with an attack, that creature takes an additional 1d6 fire damage. This damage increases to 2d6 when you reach level 11 in this class.

Visage of Vengeance

At level 3, while raging, you become a vision of your victim's's worst fear. When you enter your Rage, you may choose a creature within 30 feet of you. That creature must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be frightened of you until your Rage ends. The DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. The frightened creature can repeat this saving throw at the end of each of it's turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Additionally, you may spend your bonus action on your turn to dash towards the marked creature.

Belligerent Bindings

At 6th level, spectral chains begin to float around the Avenger. As an action, you may attempt to grapple a creature within 30 feet of you. While you are raging, as a bonus action on your turn, you may cause a creature grappled in this way to take 2d6 fire damage.

Volatile Veil

At 10th level, your presence becomes so terrible that even those near your quarry feel its influence. When you mark a creature with the Visage of Vengeance, each creature within 5 feet of the target must also make a Wisdom saving throw or become frightened, as if they were the target. They are not marked.

Additionally, you begin to wear away at the souls of those frightened by you. If a creature is frightened by you, it takes 1d8 fire damage at the end of its turn.

Scorching Soul

At 14th level, you may become the soul of vengeance, a living nightmare to your victims. When you enter your Rage, you may activate your Scorching Self. If you do, until the end of your Rage, you gain the following benefits:

  • Your size increases one category.
  • Your walking speed increases by 30 feet.
  • You gain temporary hit points equal to half your barbarian level, rounded up, at the start of your turn.
  • Creatures who start their turn within 5 feet of you take 1d4 fire damage. If the creature is the one you've marked, it takes 1d10 fire damage instead.

If you use this ability, you take 2 levels of exhaustion when your rage ends.
