Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

You have dedicated yourself to the transcription of magic. You spend your time outside of adventures recording spells you’ve learned into scrolls that can be utilized by the magically uninitiated. Your dedication to the craft grants you features at 2nd, 6th, 10th, and 14th level relating to the crafting of spell scrolls.

Scroll Savant

Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, you can craft spell scrolls very efficiently. The following table describes the gold and time necessary for you to craft spell scrolls of each spell level as well as at what wizard level you can craft them. You are assumed to spend each day listed in the crafting time working on your scroll for at least 8 hours. The creation costs consist of fine inks, quality paper, and special quills that must be purchased before crafting a scroll.

Simplified Sygaldry

Beginning at 2nd level, a spell scroll you create has the following properties, rather than those found in the Dungeon Master’s Guide:

Any creature can read the scroll and cast the spell inscribed on it without providing material components, so long as they can read the language it is written in. Casting the spell by reading the scroll requires the spell’s normal casting time. Once the spell is cast, the words on the scroll fade, and it crumbles to dust. If the casting is interrupted, the scroll is not lost.

If the creature attempting to read the scroll does not have the scroll’s spell on their class spell list, or does not have either the spellcasting or pact magic features, then they must make an Intelligence (arcana) check to determine whether they cast it successfully. The DC equals 10 + the spell’s level. On a failed check, the spell disappears from the scroll with no effect. A creature must also make this check if the spell they are attempting to cast is on their class spell list, but is of a higher level than they can normally cast.

A spell cast from the scroll uses your spell save DC and spell attack modifier.

A wizard spell on a spell scroll can be copied just as spells in spellbooks can be copied. When a spell is copied from a spell scroll, the copier must succeed on an Intelligence (Arcana) check with a DC equal to 10 + the spell's level. If the check succeeds, the spell is successfully copied. Whether the check succeeds or fails, the spell scroll is destroyed.

Artful Appraisal

Beginning at 6th level, your careful study of magical scrollwork has made you proficient at discerning the properties of magic items.
You add the identify spell to your spellbook if you don’t already have it. You always have this spell prepared, it doesn’t count against the number of spells you have prepared and whenever a creature fails a saving throw against the effects of a spell you cast, you can perform a special casting of identify targeting a magic item the creature is holding. When you cast identify this way, the spell’s range changes to 30 feet, the casting time changes to one reaction (which you take when the creature fails its saving throw), and you do not have to touch the item throughout the casting of the spell.

Quick Calligraphy

Beginning at 10th level, you’ve developed a method of scroll crafting that works fast, but results in an unsteady enchantment.

Once per day, you can create a single spell scroll of 2nd level or lower over the course of a short rest for half the cost listed in the table above. The magic of a spell scroll created this way fades after 8 hours.

Additionally, if the casting time of a spell you cast from one of your spell scrolls is an action, you can cast it as a bonus action instead. You must finish a short rest before you can cast a spell in this way again.

Furious Font

Beginning at 14th level, your spell scrolls of 1st level or higher are infused with an extra power. Any saving throws a target makes against the effects of the spell are performed with disadvantage. Additionally, if the spell written on the scroll inflicts damage, it deals an additional 1d4 force damage per level of the spell.
