Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

A Potion Master has developed the skills to quickly and efficiently brew potions. (I created this subclass because I didn't really like the alchemist subclass mechanically but liked the vibe. The potions didn't seem to add much to the artificer class, but should substantially effect how one plays a rogue. This was balanced primarily against the soulknife subclass. I would appreciate any feedback.)

Arcane knowledge

3rd-level Potion Master feature

You have studied the art of magic potion brewing. You gain proficiency with alchemist’s supplies and arcana.

Potion Brewing

3rd-level Potion Master feature

Whenever you finish a short or long rest, you can produce magic potions in empty flasks you touch. Creating a magic potion requires you to have alchemist’s supplies on your person, and any potion you create with this feature lasts until it is used or until the end of your next short or long rest. When you make a magic potion, choose the effect you want to produce from the list below, which is triggered when someone drinks the magic potion. As a bonus action, a creature can drink the potion or administer it to a willing creature within 5 ft. of themselves.

In addition, your potions contain some concentrated chaos. Instead of drinking the potion, a creature can use a bonus action spread the liquid onto a melee weapon to increase the weapon's damage. Roll on the volatility table to determine the damage type. For the next hour or until the weapon deals 8 successful strikes, it deals an additional 1d6 damage of the type rolled on the volatility table. The potion can also be applied to 8 pieces of ammunition instead of a melee weapon. Each piece of ammunition can deal the additional damage once.

Potion List

  • Healing. The drinker regains a number of hit points equal to 2d4 + your Intelligence modifier + your Proficiency bonus.
  • Swiftness. The drinker’s walking speed increases by 10 feet * your Proficiency bonus for 1 hour.
  • Resilience. The drinker gains a bonus to AC equal to 1/2 your Proficiency bonus (rounded down) for 10 minutes.
  • Boldness. The drinker can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to every attack roll and saving throw they make for 10 minutes.
  • Flight. The drinker gains a flying speed of 5 feet * your Proficiency bonus for 1 hour.
  • Invisibility. The drinker becomes invisible along with anything they are wearing or carrying for 10 minutes or until they attack or cast a spell.
  • Transformation. The drinker’s body is transformed as if by the alter self spell. The drinker determines the transformation caused by the spell, the effects of which last for 1 hour.

Chemical Exposure

9th-level Potion Master feature

You have been exposed to so many chemicals that they pose little risk to you. In fact they can give you a boost of vigor. You gain resistance to acid damage and poison damage and immunity to the poisoned condition. Whenever you drink a potion you created, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Intelligence modifier + your Proficiency bonus.

Explosive Volatility

13th-level Potion Master feature

You've learned to maximize the concentrated chaos in your potions. A creature can throw one of your created potions up to 60 ft. as an action. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered where the potion landed must make a Dexterity saving throw. The DC is 8 + your Proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier. A target takes 8d6 damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Roll on the volatility table to determine the damage type. The potion and flask are destroyed when used this way.

Master of Potions

17th-level Potion Master feature

You have perfected your potion brewing skills to maximize efficiency. Now only half as much liquid from each potion is needed to produce the desired effect. As such, each potion you make can be used twice before becoming empty.

In addition a full potion when thrown deals 8d12 damage instead of 8d6. Half-full deals the normal 8d6.
