Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am pretty new to creating homebrew subclasses. Thanks!

Touched by a being of light, born with an innate connection to the circadian cycle, or born under magical sunlight, those who bear the blood of dawn can shape light to their will, making hard objects with their power. They can create swords, shields, wings, even armor with their mastery of light.

The dawnblood within them tends to influence them towards a good alignment, but does not restrict their path in life. Many who wield such power tend to hunt the undead and other monsters of the night, but there are many more who take different occupations.

Light-Forging

Starting at 1st level, you can channel the power of day. You gain the Light cantrip and access to select other spells, which does count against your cantrips known. You can spend a spell slot when casting the Light cantrip to create a physical object instead of making an object glow. This requires concentration, lasts for 1 minute, and can take one of the following shapes:

  • You can make a shield. While wielding the shield, you gain resistance to radiant and fire damage, and are considered proficient with it. You can use your reaction when hit by a melee or ranged attack to create a barrier of radiant magic that grants a +3 bonus to your AC until the start of your next turn, potentially causing the initial attack to miss.
  • You can make a sword, either a longsword or a rapier. You are considered proficient with the weapon, and use Charisma instead of Strength or Dexterity for attack and damage rolls. The weapon does radiant damage. When you hit a target with the weapon, you can expend a spell slot and deal an extra 1d6 per level of the spell slot.
  • You can create wings of pure light. These wings grant a flying speed equal to your walking speed, and you can use a bonus action to disappear in a flash of light, reappearing in a space up to your flying speed away without provoking opportunity attacks. If you use a bonus action to move in this way, you cannot move for the rest of your turn.

All objects give off the same amount of light as the cantrip would normally. You can increase the power of the objects by using higher level spell slots, with the benefits as follows:

  • When you create a shield with a 2nd level spell slot or higher, it gains an additional cumulative +1 bonus to AC for every odd slot level (3rd, 5th, 7th) and a cumulative +1 bonus to all saving throws for every even slot level (2nd, 4th, 6th). If you use an 8th or 9th level spell slot, it increases the AC bonus from the reaction to +4 for an 8th level slot and +5 for a 9th level slot.
  • When you create a sword with a 2nd level spell slot or higher, it gains a cumulative +1 bonus to damage rolls for every other slot level (3rd, 5th, 7th) and a cumulative +1 bonus to attack rolls for every even slot level (2nd, 4th, 6th). If you use an 8th or 9th level spell slot, critical hits with the sword gain an extra 1d6 damage for an 8th level slot or 2d6 extra damage for a 9th level slot.
  • When you create wings with a 2nd level spell slot or higher, your walking speed gains a cumulative 10 feet bonus for every odd slot level (3rd, 5th, 7th) and an extra 5 feet for every even slot level (2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th) for the purposes of calculating your flying speed. If you use a 9th level spell slot, you can move one-half your flying speed after moving with the bonus action provided by the wings.

Fading of the Light

Starting at 1st level, you have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in complete darkness, unless you have a light-forged object currently active.

Dawnshaper

Starting at 6th level, objects created through Light of Dawn ability gain the following benefits, but only in direct nonmagical sunlight:

  • The shield grants advantage on all saving throws against area of effect attacks and spells and mind-altering effects and spells.
  • The sword now does 2d6 Radiant damage, and you can attack twice with it when you use the Attack action.
  • The wings now grant a flying speed equal to 1.5 times your walking speed (rounded up, 35 foot walking speed would grant a 55 foot fly speed).

Dawnkeeper

Starting at 14th level, your objects of light are empowered at all times, benefiting from Dawnshaper regardless of the current light. Additionally, you may summon two objects whenever you summon any, and both are lost if your concentration is broken.

Dawnlord

Starting at 18th level, your light-forged objects have become incredibly powerful. They no longer require concentration and give off sunlight. You may only have 2 summoned at a time, however. Beyond all this, you may create a new object that may be summoned alongside the other 2 objects, but requires concentration and a 7th level spell slot to summon, and can only be summoned once per 7 days. You can create light-forged plate, which hinders neither movement if you would normally lack the strength nor spellcasting if you lack the proficiency. The plate grants resistance to all spell damage and nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage, and bears a base +1 bonus to AC. If summoned with an 8th or 9th level spell slot, it gains a +2 or +3 bonus to AC respectively.
