College of Shanties

Bards of the College of Shanties are often viewed as uncouth ruffians and drunken sailors with a passing talent for song, but these bards are prized additions to any ship’s crew. They do not stow away on the sidelines but stand side-by-side with their allies, leading by example. Their language might be as foul as an Otyugh's nest, but they know the perfect tune for every situation, whether it be drinking, working or fighting. And nothing gets morale up like a good shanty.

Drunken Sailor

Beginning when you choose this College at 3rd level, you’re a sailor worth their salt with a talent for insults. You gain proficiency with Brewer's supplies and Vehicles (Water), and can use a mug, tankard or bottle of alcohol as a spellcasting focus for your bard spells. In addition, you learn the vicious mockery cantrip, which doesn’t count against your total number of cantrips known.

Rhythmic Camaraderie

Also at 3rd level, you’re always ready to lend a hand to an ally and can inspire others to do the same. You can take the Help action as a bonus action. When you do so, the target of your Help action can be up to 15 feet away from you. In addition, any creature that has a Bardic Inspiration die from you can also take the Help action as a bonus action.

Sailor's Wits

At 6th level, your sharp wit is always ready to mock your foes. When a creature misses you or a creature you can see with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to cast vicious mockery against it, provided it's within range.

Song of the Warship

At 14th level, your shanties inspire your allies in the heat of battle. As an action, you can expend one of your Bardic Inspiration dice and roll it. After doing so, any number of creatures of your choice within 60 feet of you that can hear you gains a number of temporary hit points equal to the result of the roll plus your Charisma modifier. Any creature that gains these temporary hit points can immediately use its reaction to make a single melee weapon attack.
