Base Class: Wizard
Staffwardens harness nature magic to fortify and defend themselves or others against the enemies of the realm. Many Staffwardens serve their order as bodyguards or councilors of respected clergymen, healers, and rulers. Their role in a royal court is similar to that of a knight, and they often serve as the first defense against various magical threats upon the land. Few conclaves of these mages even exist as acolytes of nature gods or sacred grounds.
Staffwardens earn their name from the preferred arcane focus of their order. Their strong connection to nature magic benefits largely from a sturdy focus, typically in the form of a stone, crystal, or wooden staff.
A Staffwarden’s particular order or charge can be identified by the unique design or composition of their staff. Speak with your DM about how commoners and nobles alike may recognize such a symbol of status and what it means to belong to your specific order of mages.
Battleward
At level 2, you are adept at bending the natural elements to shield yourself from harm. You learn the shield and mage armor spells and always have them prepared. These spells do not count towards your known spells.
Additionally, you may cast each spell once without expending a spell slot and regain all expended uses after a long rest.
At 5th level, you can also cast sanctuary on yourself using this feature.
Natural Order
Additionally at level 2, your connection to nature magic allows you to learn and cast spells from the Druid spell list and you can prepare those spells as normal. They count as wizard spells for you.
When you copy a spell into your spellbook from the Druid spell list the gold required to do so is increased by 25gp regardless of the spell’s level.
Guardian’s Gait
At level 6, you learn to harness the natural forces that power your arcane spells into a surge of supernatural speed. You know the haste spell and can cast it twice without spending a spell slot. You cannot use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
Advanced Abjuration
At level 10, you master the ability to amplify the natural, protective barrier between all realms when utilizing abjuration magic.
While you are concentrating on an abjuration spell, you and a number of creatures equal to your Spellcasting modifier that you can see within 30ft gain resistance to spell damage and damage from non-magical weapons for a number of rounds equal to half the spell’s level (rounded up).
This ability fails when you lose concentration on the spell you activated this feature with and spell attacks made with advantage against affected targets ignore the resistance granted by this ability.
Once you use this feature, you cannot do so again until you complete a short rest.
Realmwarden
At level 14, your stalwart magical form enhances your ability to enforce abjuration magic with extreme prejudice.
You gain advantage on concentration checks to maintain concentration on an abjuration spell. You know the banishment spell and always have it prepared. When you cast it you can use your bonus action to force the target to roll with disadvantage on its charisma saving throw to resist the effect.
Additionally, the range of your Advanced Abjuration feature is increased to 60ft.
