Base Class: Wizard
Though the practice of wielding Koldfire is known to be limited to the Lamplighters of Paledge, their knowledge of it's properties are graciously shared to all who wish to learn. Because if it's very nature, Learning to wield Koldfire is arduous task, requiring rigorous study, mental fortitude, and a lot of patience.
Those of the Order of Koldfire, also known as Wispkeepers, use Koldfire much differently than Lamplighters, and for a very different purpose. As some Lamplighters harness Koldfire through their devotion to the Hoarder, Koldfire Mages harness their abilities from the Koldfire itself, keeping a flame of Koldfire within a lantern they keep by their side, in which they can harness their abilities in place of a Wizards typical spell book.
Hieratic Scholar
2nd-Level Koldfire Magic Feature
Your tutelage with Lamplighters have allowed you to learn spells that are normally outside your purview.
You can now learn spells from the cleric spell list, but the gold and time you must spend to copy a Cleric spell into your spellbook is doubled, and can only acquired from certain places of worship.
Wisp Lantern
2nd-Level Koldfire Magic Feature
From your meticulous studies into Koldfire, you can harness its abilities directly. In place of your spellbook, you now carry a Wisp Lantern in its stead, containing all your magical knowledge within it's flickering flame. The lantern behaves like a spellbook, and you can copy spells into it as normal.
While you are holding this lantern, it grants you the following benefits:
- You can use this lantern as a spellcasting focus for your wizard spells.
- You can make the lantern float in a 5 ft. radius around you.
- You can cast spells without verbal components.
- You can dismiss the lantern, causing it to disappear, and it appears when you summon it into existence (no action required).
As a bonus action, you can control the brightness of the lantern. the light from the lantern can shed bright light in a 5 ft. radius and dim light for an additional 5 feet, up to a maximum of a 15 ft. radius and dim light for an additional 15 feet. the bright light from the lantern can disperse heavily obscuring effects such as fog or smoke, but cannot shine through magical darkness. you can snuff out the light as a free action.
If your Wisp Lantern is on the same plane of existence as you, you can summon the lantern as a bonus action, causing it to teleport to your hand or floating beside you. If your wisp lantern gets destroyed, you can spend 1 hour and 10 gp to create a new Wisp Lantern, but don't need to spend the extra time or gold recopying down your spells.
Scintillating Beacon
6th-level Koldfire Magic Feature
Your fire spells have become more potent from your time studying Koldfire.
When you cast a spell of 1st level or higher, you can choose to summon a number of Koldfire Wisps equal to the spells level. these Koldfire Wisps orbit around you, shedding dim light in a 5 ft. radius before extinguishing after 1 hour. Alternatively, you can use a Bonus Action to expend a spell slot, summoning a number of Koldfire Wisps equal to the spell slots level. you can do this a number of times equal to your intelligence modifier, regaining all expended slots at the end of a long rest. The maximum number of Koldfire Wisps you can have is equal to half your Wizard Level (rounded up).
Whenever you make an attack role, ability check or saving throw, you can add the number of Koldfire Wisps you have to the number rolled as reaction, causing the wisps to extinguish. You can add them after seeing the initial roll, but before knowing the effects of the roll.
Wispkeeper's Sentry
10th-Level Koldfire Magic Feature
As your knowledge of Koldfire grows, your Wisp Lantern becomes more apart of you.
You can now control your Wisp Lantern from a distance, allowing it to float in any direction within 60 ft. of you. As long as the lantern is within this range, you can continue to use it as a spellcasting focus. In addition, you gain the following benefits while your Wisp Lantern is within range:
- You can move the Wisp Lantern 30 feet to a space you can see.
- As an Action, you can look and hear through the flame of your Wisp Lantern until your next turn, gaining 30 ft. of Truesight for the duration. During this time, you are deaf and blind with regard to your own Senses.
- You can choose to cast spells through your Wisp Lantern as long as it is within line of sight, and as long as the spell does not have a range of touch or self.
If your Wisp lantern is further than 60 ft. from you, you are no longer able to use it as a spellcasting focus, and it will disappear after 1 minute.
Will-o'-the-Wisp
14th-Level Koldfire Magic Feature
You have gained a mastery over Koldfire.
When you cast a spell of 1st level or higher, you can spend any Koldfire Wisps you may have instead of expending a spell slot, causing the wisps to extinguish. The number of Koldfire Wisps you spend is equal to the spells level. When you cast a spell in this way, it does not produce more wisps from Scintillating Beacon.
When you cast a fire spell using this ability, you expend 1 less Koldfire Wisp (minimum of 1).
