Base Class: Sorcerer
As a babe you were cursed by some sort of hag or other magical entity (can be of evil or good alignment) to be a normal person by day and an animal by night. Sundown marks the beginning of your transformation each night and sunrise marks the switch back. Due to the magic of the curse being so innately woven into your bones, you have learned to tap into the natural well of magical energy within and around you. This curse cannot be removed by Remove Curse or Greater Restoration. It is Up to the Player and DM to decide how the curse can be broken. (And what repercussions that may have upon the player or the player's magic.)
Suggested cures: true love’s kiss, killing the one who cursed them, a tonic made from a very rare flower that only blooms once a year on the top of a specific mountain, sacrificing a sacred animal, wish spell, death, etc.
Animal Form
At night you turn into an animal form, all your stats become 20s, and you retain any skill or saving throw proficiencies (this reverts back to your rolled stats when your form drops at sunrise). You retain the ability to speak in your natural languages. Any items that were worn before the transformation meld into the your body and cannot be removed until you transform back. You cannot use any items that require hands and cannot wield any weapons, however you are able to cast spells. Any arcane focus or spell component can still be used during this time (spell components are treated as an arcane focus).
Remove Curse and Greater Restoration are not able to remove this effect.
Possible Animals:
- Swan, cat, weasel, frog, deer, fox, rat
- (Or any beast with a CR of 0)
Animal Tongue
You gain the spell Speak with Animals which does not count against your known Sorcerer spells and can be used an unlimited number of times per day.
Sleepless Nights:
You have no more need for sleep, forced instead to endure your nightly suffering. Instead, you must meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that normal humans do from 8 hours of sleep.
Prolonged Suffering
At 6th level the curse within you has become so determined to prolong your suffering, it has granted you resistance to nonmagical bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing damage while in your animal form. This becomes immunity to these types of damages at 12th level. At 8th level acid, cold, fire, lightning, poison, and thunder damage are added to your list of resistances. At level 16 these immunities and resistances translate to your daytime form as well. At level 19 you become unable to age.
Living-Curse
At 14th level the living curse within you has evolved to keep you standing longer. When you are reduced to 0 Hit Points, instead reduce your total to 1 and revert to daytime form (only necessary if in animal form).
Also, whenever you roll to regain hit points, instead regain hit points equal to the max number on the die. (This includes hit dice.)
Curse Control
After living with this curse for so long, you have finally managed to gain control of it. You can now trigger your transformations at will, completely disregarding what time of day it is. It takes a bonus action to do so, can be done an unlimited number of times, and will last until reversed.
