Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Barbarians who follow their heated rage into battle tend to draw on either feral might or primal intuition to bolster their strength. Those who follow the Path of the Inner Inferno are no different, allowing themselves to be consumed by hungry flames that have existed since the dawn of creation. Be they disciples of dragons, bearers of fiendish blood, in possession of some primordial affinity, or numerous other connections to that bright inner forge that lurks deep in the chests of them, barbarians who follow the Path of the Inner Inferno possess a rage that burns with unmatched intensity, razing to the ground all those who stand in their way.

Child of the Flames

When you choose this subclass at third level, you gain a greater understanding of the nature of fire, which you are able to use to influence it. You learn the Control Flames cantrip, and can cast it as a bonus action. Constitution is your spellcasting modifier for it.

Additionally, at third level, you gain the ability to start fires with a touch. As an action, you can magically ignite a flammable object you touch with your hand—an object such as a torch, a piece of tinder, or the hem of drapes.

Mantle of Fire

Starting at 3rd level, you can unleash the phoenix fire that blazes within you.

When you are raging, you magically wreathe yourself in swirling fire, as your eyes glow like hot coals. For the duration, you gain the following additional benefits:

  • You shed bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet.
  • Any creature takes fire damage equal to your Constitution modifier if it hits you with a melee attack from within 5 feet of you or if it touches you.
  • Once per turn when you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you cause additional fire damage equal to your Constitution modifier.

Burning Retribution

Starting at 6th level, the fiery energy within you grows restless and vengeful. In the face of defeat, it surges outward to preserve you in a fiery roar.

If you are reduced to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction to draw on the spark of the inferno within. You are instead reduced to 1 hit point, and each creature within 10 feet of you takes fire damage equal to half your barbarian level + your Constitution modifier.

If you use this feature while your Mantle of Fire is active, this feature instead deals fire damage equal to your barbarian level + double your Constitution modifier, and your rage loses the benefits of your Mantle of Fire until the end of the rage duration.

You may use this ability once per rage. You may also regain one use of this feature whenever you succeed on your Constitution saving throw for your Relentless Rage feature at 11th level.

Trail Blazer

At 10th level, your fire within burns so hot that even your footfalls alight with flames, granting you greater movement while lashing out at those who dare try to stop you.

Your movement speed increases by 10 feet. Additionally, when you move within 5 feet of a hostile creature, or a hostile creature hits you with an opportunity attack, they take 1d6 fire damage. This damage increases to 2d6 at 15th level. A creature can only take this damage once per turn.

Explosive Fury

At 14th level, your burning rage becomes so potent that you are able to propel yourself with it, achieving unmatched speed as explosive forces hurl you across the sky.

While raging, you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed. While flying in this way, you must use 5 feet of movement every round, as the volatile flames keeping you elevated does not allow for respite. Failing to do so causes you to fall if you end your turn in the air and nothing else is holding you aloft. You can use your reaction to slow your descent, calling on the flames around you to aid your move, which prevents taking damage from the fall. If you choose to do so, any creature standing within 15 feet of the space where you land must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus) or take 4d12 fire damage.
