Base Class: Wizard
Testing options for war mage style of wizard.
Training in War and Song
When you adopt this tradition at 2nd level, you gain proficiency with all armor, and you gain proficiency with one type of melee weapon specific to your character's backstory.
You also gain proficiency in the Performance skill if you don't already have it.
Trance of Rage and Flame
Starting at 2nd level, you can invoke a trance which grants you improved fire magic, agility, AC, and focus.
When you can see or sense creatures who you perceive as hostile, you can use a bonus action to start the trance, which will last until you only have 10 hit points remaining, or all hostile creatures have perished or fully retreated. This trance also ends if you become incapacitated; once you enter the trance, you cannot willingly end it.
While your trance is active, you gain the following benefits:
- You gain a bonus to your AC equal to your Intelligence modifier or spellcasting ability modifier (minimum of +1).
- Your walking speed increases by 10 feet.
- You have advantage on attack rolls, and can add your hit dice to the damage of any fire spell.
- You gain a bonus to any Constitution saving throws you make to maintain concentration on a spell. The bonus equals your Intelligence modifier (minimum of +1).
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest.
Haste in Attack and Fury
Starting at 6th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. Moreover, you can cast one of your cantrips in place of one of those attacks; this does not prevent you from casting a spell on a separate action.
Riposte of Fire and Pain
Beginning at 10th level, you can direct your magic to inflict damage as a reaction to taking damage of any kind.
When you take damage, you can use your reaction to take extra damage equal to one quarter of the damage from the attack which triggered the reaction and cast Flame Strike as a 5-foot directional cylinder originating from your position. You do not have to cast it at the creature which attacked you.
Skill with Blade and Blaze
Starting at 14th level, you add your Intelligence modifier (minimum of +1) to the damage of your melee weapon and fire-based attacks.
