Base Class: Wizard
Knowledge Domain
The divine domain of knowledge is a logical choice for wizards that revere their god as much as their arcane pursuits. The gods of knowledge often have devotees in places of learning as their chosen seek to discern the secrets of the multiverse. Others may attempt to hoard mystical teachings for themselves. Followers of these gods learn all they can and study the secrets contained in old tomes and other esoteric lore. This is pleasing to their gods who value understanding and learning above all else.
Wizards selecting this subclass may use a holy relic as a focus for the casting of spells.
Theurgic Lore
At 2nd level, you learn two languages of your choice. You also gain expertise in Arcana and Religion. This deep understanding of mystical forces allows you to cast ritual spells adding only 5 minutes to the casting time as opposed to 10.
Initiate of the Arcane
Upon choosing this subclass and when you gain certain wizard levels you learn cleric spells specific to the Knowledge Domain:
Level 3 Augury and Suggestion
Level 5 Nondetection and Speak with Dead
Level 7 Arcane Eye and Confusion
Level 9 Legend Lore and Scrying.
These spells are always prepared and do not count against your total number of prepared spells.
You may also add spells to your spellbook from the cleric spell list when reaching an even-numbered level in this subclass (2,4,6,...) following the same rules for adding wizard spells to your spellbook upon reaching a new level. Additionally, you may add cleric spells to your spellbook from other sources found in your journeys (scrolls, etc.) but the cost for transcribing these spells is tripled when compared to an equivalent level wizard spell. The spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots.
Any cleric spell you gain from this subclass is considered a wizard spell for you and is Intelligence-based, but other wizards can’t copy cleric spells from your spellbook into their own spellbooks.
Channel the Arcane
At 2nd level, you gain the ability to channel mystical energies directly from your deity, and use that power to generate magical effects. You start with two such abilities: Divine Mind and the Channel Divinity option granted at 2nd level by the Knowledge Domain. You employ that Channel Divinity option by using your Channel the Arcane ability.
When you utilize your Channel the Arcane ability, you choose which effect to produce. Beginning at 6th level, you can use your Channel the Arcane ability twice between rests, and beginning at 18th level, you can use it three times between rests. When you finish a short or long rest, you regain all expended uses.
Channel Divinity: Knowledge of the Ages
Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel the Arcane ability to tap into a divine well of knowledge. As an action, you choose one skill or tool. For 10 minutes, you have proficiency with the chosen skill or tool.
Channel the Arcane: Divine Mind
As a bonus action, you utter prayers to your god and harness the very weaves of magic. For the next 5 minutes you may maintain concentration on two different spells at the same time. If the duration of both spells exceeds 5 minutes (example: Stoneskin and Scrying), you may choose which effect ends and which continues.
Additionally, you benefit from a passive +2 bonus to any Constitution saving throws to maintain concentration on a spell. At level 10 this passive bonus is increased to +4. This passive bonus will not apply when using the active ability to maintain two spells requiring concentration.
Touch of Faith
Beginning at 6th level, the divine power of your god bolsters your abilities. Once per turn, your ability to attack your foes or heal your allies is strengthened by the hand of your deity. You may choose from either option but they may not both be used on the same turn.
- When you are successful in dealing damage, you may add additional damage equal to your proficiency bonus. This damage can be either radiant or necrotic (your choice).
- When using a spell or ability that recovers hit points, you may add your proficiency bonus to the amount of health recovered.
Mind Like a Steel Trap
At 10th level, you gain resistance to psychic damage. You are also immune to any effects that would alter your memory.
As well, the cost of transcribing cleric spells into your spellbook is now only doubled instead of tripled when compared to an equivalently leveled wizard spell.
Past is Present
At 14th level, you gain the benefits your deity would grant to a 17th level cleric of the Knowledge Domain. Your academic background and deep insight into the weaves of magic facilitate mastery of this ability earlier than a cleric of the same tradition.
You can call up visions of the past that relate to an object you hold or your immediate surroundings. You spend at least 1 minute in meditation and prayer, then receive dreamlike, shadowy glimpses of recent events. You can meditate in this way for a number of minutes equal to your Intelligence score and must maintain concentration during that time, as if you were casting a spell.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
Object Reading. Holding an object as you meditate, you can see visions of the object’s previous owner. After meditating for 1 minute, you learn how the owner acquired and lost the object, as well as the most recent significant event involving the object and that owner. If the object was owned by another creature in the recent past (within a number of days equal to your Intelligence score), you can spend 1 additional minute for each owner to learn the same information about that creature.
Area Reading. As you meditate, you see visions of recent events in your immediate vicinity (a room, street, tunnel, clearing, or the like, up to a 50-foot cube), going back a number of days equal to your Intelligence score. For each minute you meditate, you learn about one significant event, beginning with the most recent. Significant events typically involve powerful emotions, such as battles and betrayals, marriages and murders, births and funerals. However, they might also include more mundane events that are nevertheless important in your current situation.
