Base Class: Ranger
Boneseekers scavenge the land looking for the remains of once-living beings to better understand the inhabitants of the planes. Their practiced knowledge of creatures and their compositions make them talented healers, but also skillful investigators, students, trackers, and wardens of the natural world.
Boneseeker Magic
Starting at 3rd level, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Boneseeker Spells table. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of ranger spells you know. You may ritual cast your Boneseeker Spells that contain the ritual tag.
Boneseeker Spells
| Ranger Level | Spell |
|---|---|
| 3rd | detect poison and disease |
| 5th | locate animals or plants |
| 9th | revivify |
| 13th | locate creature |
| 17th | raise dead |
Osteal Eye
If you come across the remains of a creature that contains bones or teeth, you may spend one minute studying these remains to glean information from. You learn:
- What kind of creature the remains belong to (i.e. high elf, winter wolf, etc) and its creature type (i.e. humanoid, monstrosity, etc)
- How long the creature has been dead
- The reason for the creature's death
- Of any irregularities like slashes from a sword or bite marks from a giant badger
- If the remains contain a tooth, you also learn the last thing the creature ate
Additionally, you gain proficiency in the Medicine skill. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses that proficiency. If you already have proficiency in Medicine, you gain proficiency in either Survival or Nature.
Cadaver-keeper's Instinct
At 3rd level, your knowledge of creatures' physical makeups render you especially adept at surviving their assaults.
If a creature hits you with a natural weapon (i.e. Dragon's tail attack, owlbear's claw attack) or an unarmed strike, you can use your reaction to halve the incoming damage. The next attack you make against this creature does an extra 1d6 damage, increasing to 2d6 at 11th Level in this class. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
When you reach the 11th Level in this class, you may also use your reaction to use this feature on an ally within 30 feet of you.
Student of the Departed
You have a particular understanding of the dead and how to use that knowledge to your benefit.
Beginning at 7th Level, you have advantage on Death Saving Throws and you become resistant to necrotic damage.
You may also, as a bonus action, make a Wisdom(Medicine) check to stabilize a creature at 0 hit points.
Enhanced Osteal Eye
By 11th Level, your knack for posthumous discernment has become downright magical. When you use your Osteal Eye feature, you also learn the following details:
- The name of the creature, if it had one
- The creature's gender identity
- How old the creature was when it died
- The geographical origin or birthplace of the creature
- Some details of the creature's life or backstory (the level of detail is up to the DM)
- The creature's class levels when it died, if it had any
- If the creature has ever been the subject of any resurrection magic, and, if so, which spells or magical effects
- Any damage resistances, immunities, and vulnerabilities the creature had in life
- Any Magical Items the creature had been attuned to in life
Unbreakable
At 15th level, you gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical weapons.
