Base Class: Warlock
The Scarecrow isn't just one entity. It is a thousand small villages with dark secrets, a thousand dank and decaying fields of wheat, a thousand snatches of laughter on the breeze. The Scarecrow is in every step you take late at night in the country, with eyes watching you. It is every thrill of fear when a murder of crows unexpectedly takes flight at dusk, cawing and crying. It is the scent of a dying animal, the fear of an empty road, the sick gaze of an eyeless scarecrow. It is a lurking dread in every corner. It ensures a good harvest and a good year, at a cost. A cost you will pay. or it will be extracted from you.
Drawing the attention of The Scarecrow isn't easy. Maybe you were one of those sacrifices that it spared so you could spread the dread to further corners. Maybe it protected you and now it extracts a cost. Maybe it just favors you for unknown reasons. But what is certain is that you have been Marked. Dogs tend to shy away from you, people get a feeling they should be elsewhere if they see you on a sunset street.
Expanded Spell List
The Scarecrow grants you access to the following spells:
1st: Bane, Dissonant Whispers
2nd: Blindness/Deafness, Phantasmal Force
3rd: Bestow Curse, Slow
4th: Phantasmal Killer, Confusion
5th: Geas, Insect Plague
Mimicry
At level 1, you gain the cantrip Vicious Mockery. It does not count against the cantrips you know. Additionally, you remember any words spoken to you in the last year. You can repeat them but only in a hoarse, croaking, unnatural voice. If you use words someone said against them as part of vicious mockery, add your spellcasting modifier to the damage roll.
I Hear Crows
At level 6, you gain access to a familiar sent by your patron, an unnaturally large and intelligent crow. It uses the Raven stat block. As long as your crow is on your shoulder, you can use your bonus action to have it emit a shrill cry or a croaking voice to give one target within 30ft disadvantage on its next wisdom or charisma saving throw. You can do this a number of times a day equal to your charisma bonus
Ancient and Unnatural
At level 10, you become immune to the frightened condition. Additionally, whenever a target fails a wisdom or charisma save against you, you can use your bonus action to make it frightened for 1 minute. You can do this a number of times equal to your charisma bonus
Just A Fable
At level 14, you can draw on the ancient, primal fear of your patron directly. As an action, you become an effigy of The Scarecrow. You gain resistance to psychic and necrotic damage, and emit an aura of discordant whispers and haunting screams. Each creature you select within 20 feet must make a wisdom save when it enters your aura for the first time. On a failure, it takes 4d6 psychic or necrotic damage and must subtract a d4 from all attack rolls, as if they were affected by the spell Bane. On a successful save they take half damage and no penalty.
If a target within your aura is frightened, they take double damage from your aura. If they become frightened from you using Ancient and Unnatural on them after they failed the save from Just a Fable, it counts for the double damage.
