Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monk of the Way of Instinct rely on martial techniques as a steady means through which they're able to react and respond to looming dangers that may threat theirs and their companions well-being. Their training mainly focuses on honing their senses to a level which allows them to perceive any sudden change in the enviroment, thus finding and applying the most reliable method with utmost resolution.

Conscious Mind

You have dedicated your training to sharpening your mind beyond its limits, entrusting your every move and feeling to the primary stimilus inherent in every mortal being: instinct. Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain the following benefits:

  • You have advantage on initiative rolls and can’t be surprised while you are conscious.
  • You gain proficiency in two skills between Insight, Investigation and Perception. If you're already proficient in one of those skills, your proficiency bonus is doubled for any check you make with one of them (your choice).
  • You gain a number of additional reactions on top of your regular reaction which equals your Wisdom modifier + your monk level. However, you can only take a limited number of reactions per round, equal to your Dexterity modifier. You can only use one reaction per trigger, and regain all expended reactions after you finish a long rest.

Instinctual Arts

The foundations on which your monastic tradition is based on have been fixated into your mind as well as your body, bringing forth your martial prowess. Such practices, known as 'Instinctual Arts' by many,  are like second nature to you, and you learn how to apply them efficiently depending on the circumstances. At 6th level, you gain the following benefits:

  • Seek. When you make a check that allows you to apply your proficiency in Insight, Investigation or Perception, you can spend 1 ki point  to focus your attention on actively seeking details that others may miss, gaining advantage on the ability check.
  • Halt. When you are hit by a melee attack, you can use one of your reactions to instinctively strike back and avert part of the blow. When you do so, the damage you take from the attack is reduced by your Martial Arts dice + your Dexterity modifier + your monk level. If the damage is reduced to 0, you may spend 1 ki point to make an unarmed strike against a creature as part of the same reaction, if the creature is within your reach. You can use this feature three times, and regain the ability to do so after you finish a short or long rest.
  • Seize. When you take the Attack action with an unarmed strike or a monk weapon on your turn, you can use one of your reactions to increase your reach for that attack by 5 feet. If you hit, you may spend 1 ki point to increase your reach by 5 feet for the next two rounds, focusing on the incoming dangers surrounding you, ready to strike again. If you do, you cannot benefit from your Flurry of Blows for this attack.
  • Pound. Whenever you hit a creature with one of the attacks granted by your Flurry of Blows, once per round, you can use one of your reactions to roll your damage dice an additional time and add it as extra damage for each of the bonus attacks that hit. You may spend 2 ki points to make both attacks with advantage, but you must decide before you roll for damage.

No-Mind Zone

At 11th level, you are able to enter an advanced mental state, emptying your mind and letting your instinct be your only guide. By quickly predicting enemy movements in the flow of battle, you're able to strike back at them with incredible speed. As a bonus action on your turn, you can spend 3 ki points to cast the Haste spell on yourself, without the need for material components. It lasts for 1 minute, and you don't need to mantain concentration for it.

You can use this feature once, and regain the ability to do so after you finish a long rest.

Clear Thoughts, Silent Heart

Having reached the pinnacle of balance between mind and body by constantly honing your senses, your cognitive skills far exceed those of a common being. At 17th level, whenever you make a saving throw, you can spend 1 ki point to gain advantage on the roll. You must do so before rolling the dice.

You can use this feature twice, and you regain the ability to do so after you finish a long rest.
