Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

Kegare are formed from failures, they are thieves rotting in underground cells; an adventurer about to meet their end. In their darkest moments, a pact is forged, and a shade is born. A Kegare's shade is their closest ally, fighting and growing alongside them; sharing in the darkness that fuels them.

Darkness Manifest

3rd-Level Kegare Feature

By studying the runes in the dark you gain the following benefits:

Darkvision. You gain darkvision out to a range of 60 feet, if you already have darkvision from your race, its range increases by 30 feet.

Foreign Tongue. You learn to speak, read, and write Abyssal or one other language of your choice.

Summon Shade

3rd-Level Kegare Feature

As an action, or alternatively as a 10 minute ritual, you pull from the void that exists within, conjuring a shade to assist you. When summoning a shade as an action, you expend a number of hit die equal to half your proficiency bonus (rounded up), taking damage equal to the number rolled. When summoning a shade as a ritual, you expend the hit die but do not take damage. The shade appears in a space of your choice within 30 feet of you.

The shade is friendly to you and your companions, and it obeys your commands. See its game statistics in the accompanying Shade stat block, which uses your proficiency bonus (PB) in several places. Whenever you summon the shade, choose a form that you are familiar with and is of size medium or smaller. Additionally, while your familiar is within 100 feet of you, you can communicate with it telepathically.

In combat, the shade shares your initiative count, and takes its turn concurrently with yours. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes on its turn is the Hide action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. If you are incapacitated, the shade can take any action of its choice.

The shade remains until it is reduced to 0 hit points, until you use this feature to summon the shade again, or until you die. You can’t have more than one shade at a time. If you use this feature while you already have a shade, you instead cause it to adopt a new form.

Exchange

3rd-Level Kegare Feature

While you are within 60 ft. of your shade, as a bonus action, or as a reaction when you reduce a hostile creature to 0 hitpoints, you can exchange places with your shade. If your destination space is too small for you to occupy, the teleportation fails and is wasted.

Additionally, if your shade has latched on to a creature with its Phantom Follower ability, when you use Exchange the creature must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (the creature can choose to fail) of (10+PB) or be forcibly teleported with your shade.

Tenebrous Dawn

9th-Level Kegare Feature

The deeper you venture into the void the dimmer and more complex the runes become. Your journey has forced you to adapt to a world without light, by doing so you gain the following benefits:

Shaded Self. When starting your turn within dim light or darkness, you can take the hide action as a free action.

Dusk. As an action, you augment your shade’s combat abilites by expending a hit die and taking damage equal to the number rolled. For the next minute, your shade gains temporary hitpoints equal to the number rolled and deals bonus damage equal to the number rolled.

Devouring Dark

13th-Level Kegare Feature

Yet again you’ve returned from your delve into the abyss. The ashen runes found throughout the howling black have taught you the following secrets:

Devour. As a reaction, when you strike a creature with your sneak attack, you can expend a hit die and heal for the amount rolled.

Greater Exchange. Exchange’s range limitation increases to 120 ft.

Lingering Shade. Your Shade’s Phantom Follower duration increases to 1 week.

Umbra Incarnate

17th-Level Kegare Feature

At the bottom of the endless void you find only yourself looking back. Embracing the darkness, you become indistinguishable from the shadows that infest each and every realm.

Umbral Shawl. While in dim light or darkness, you can use an action to shroud yourself in shadows, becoming invisible for 10 minutes. This effect does not require concentration, and can be ended at will. Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
