College of Enlightenment

A storyteller brings out his deck of cards. It is full of mystical imagery and strange symbols. As he begins to shuffle them, he invites a young boy in the crowd to come forward and place his hands out. As he does, a strange light shoots from the cards and links with the boy's hand, and then his heart. The deck shuffles itself, and reveals 12 cards, and the light fades. The bard picks up the deck and tells the boy that he will face many hardships in the near future, and they will eventually lead him to glorious battle with a green drake. The boy looks awestruck, and the surrounding villagers laugh, assuming this to be but some parlor trick. The bard smiles, collects his coin and leaves, but not before handing the boy a card depicting a virtuous hero, with the boys name written across it.

The teachings of the college of Enlightenment are not known, only that it is one of the few schools to accurately divine the future. Every member is taught how to unlock their inner wisdom, and gains insights that are of great benefit to any bard.

Divining Focus

When the Bard decides to commit to the teachings of Enlightenment, they must first find an item that speaks to their very soul. These items could be playing cards, animal parts, tobacco, or even dice. While many bard's end goal is to create a lasting work, an Enlightened bard seeks to create the perfect medium, in order to foresee the future with perfect accuracy. Many bards do this by making their own tarot decks, each with different suits, different amounts of cards in said suits, and different trump cards.

For the Future

When a bard joins the College of Enlightenment, they gain an insight into both the past and future. Seeing these snippets has given them a better foundation to understand prophecies. In addition, they are able to tell their own prophecies, either for themselves or for others. While typically not long term prophecies, these prophecies can help to predict the immediate future. However, some of the most Enlightened bards of the realm have been known to give prophecies that predict the future by decades.

You can use an action to make a divining focus tool check, and expend a bardic inspiration die. If the check succeeds the foes wisdom score, you roll an inspiration die. The target then makes any roll at disadvantage for a number of turns shown on the die or is stunned for half the value shown on the die.
