Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

The fencer is a master of the rapier, able to expertly maneuver it for the purpose of either defense or offense.

Fencing Techniques

When you choose this class at 3rd level, you gain two techniques of your choice that are fueled by special dice called technique dice. You gain more techniques as you gain levels in this class.

Technique Dice You have six specialty dice, which are d4s. A specialty die is expended when you use it. You regain all your expended technique dice when you finish a short or long rest. You gain another technique die at 5th level, 7th level, 10th level and 15th level.

Saving Throws Some of your features require your target to make a saving throw to resist their effects. The saving throw is calculated as 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Dexterity modifier.

Techniques You have several techniques divided into two categories: offensive and defensive. Listed are the techniques:

  • Feint. When you succeed on an attack roll, you can instead roll a technique die. If its roll + your proficiency bonus is equal to or more than the wisdom modifier of the creature you are attacking, you can provoke an opportunity attack. Parrying this attack does not use your reaction. You have advantage on attack rolls to riposte this attack. A technique die is only expended on a successful use of this feature.
  • Lunge. When you make an attack with a rapier, you can expend one technique die to increase the reach of your attack to 10ft. Lunging does not provoke opportunity attacks.
  • Beat Attack. When you attack a creature behind half or three-quarters cover or a shield, you can roll a technique die. The roll is subtracted from their AC until the end of your turn.
  • Disengage. When you attack a creature holding an object or creature, you can roll a technique die. If the roll + your proficiency bonus is more than or equal to the strength modifier, they drop the object and must use a bonus action to retrieve it.
  • Continuation. When an attack roll misses, you can expend a technique die to repeat the attack. This can only be used once per turn.
  • Flick. When you make an attack, you can roll a technique die. You bypass an attack roll and do slashing damage equal to the technique die roll instead.
  • Flèche. On your last attack of a turn during which you moved no more than 5 feet, you can roll a technique die and add it to your attack and damage roll, then move to the opposite side of the creature you are attacking if it is large or smaller.
  • Parry. When you are attacked, you can use your reaction to roll a technique die and subtract it from the hit die, and impose disadvantage on opportunity attacks
  • Riposte. When you successfully parry an attack, you can make a weapon attack with your rapier
  • Point-in-line. When you are 10ft away from a creature, you can use an action to provoke an opportunity attack and impose disadvantage. Parrying this attack does not use your reaction.
