Bonus Proficiencies

When you join the College of Captains at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with medium armor, shields, and martial weapons

Additionally you may use a weapon you’re proficient with or shield as your spellcasting focus.

 

At 3rd level, you adopt a particular style of fighting as your specialty. Choose one of the following options. You can't take a Fighting Style option more than once, even if you later get to choose again.

  • Defense. While you are wearing armor, you gain a +1 bonus to AC
  • Interception. When a creature you can see hits a target, other than you, within 5 feet of you with an attack, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage the target takes by 1d10 + your proficiency bonus (to a minimum of 0 damage). You must be wielding a shield or a simple or martial weapon to use this reaction.
  • Protection. When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. You must be wielding a shield.

Captain’s Call

When you use your bonus action to inspire an ally around you with Bardic Inspiration you may choose an additional effect to empower that ally. This effect is applied to the creature for as long as they have your bardic inspiration. The effect ends at the end of the turn they use their Bardic Inspiration Die. Only One Captain’s Call can be applied to an ally at a time.

 

  • “Hold your ground”: Your ally gains a +1 to their AC and they gain an amount of temporary hit points equal to 2 times your proficiency bonus.
  • “Get in there and fight”: Your ally gains a +1 to attack and damage. Additionally they gain movement speed equal to 5 times your proficiency bonus. 
  • “Focus!”: Your ally gains +1 on constitution saving throws to maintain concentration. Additionally they gain a bonus to their spell save DC and spell attack modifier equal to half your proficiency bonus rounded down.

Inspired Attack

At 6th level,When you use your bonus action to give an ally bardic inspiration you may immediately take a melee attack roll. 

Commanding Presence

Starting at 14th level, you learn that not only your words but your mere presence can inspire those around you.

As an action you can activate your Commanding Presence granting you the following abilities. -  

  • Your Captain’s Call class feature can now be applied to up to 2 allies.
  • While you are within 30 ft of an ally they gain  invulnerability to being Charmed or Frightened. If they are currently affected by one of those conditions then they break out of it. 
  • Whenever you deal damage with a martial weapon you may expend a bardic inspiration die. You roll the die and deal the number rolled in force damage to the target attacked or heal an ally within 30 ft of you equal to the rolled number plus your charisma modifier.

You regain use of this ability after finishing a short or long rest.
