Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of the Extinguished Flame binds a paladin as a hunter for a powerful patron. These paladins, otherwise known as Dread Hunters or Ill Omens, are sent after those that fail to pay off the debts owed to powerful beings. Do not confuse these knights for mere debt collectors; they are not sent for payment, but for punishment. When an individual denies a binding contract, these knights will hunt them down and consign their souls to oblivion, so that others will know the fate that awaits them should they turn back on their word. Many of these Dread Knights are bound to service to their patron, and it is understood that should they try to leave their unholy benefactor, they will be hunted as they have hunted others. Those that follow this dreadful oath often adorn their armour with the trophies of their vanquished foes; a grim warning to those that consider running from their debt. They may be bound to hags or devils that conduct bargains with mortals. When the debt cannot be paid, it will be paid in blood.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Blood Curse. As a bonus action, you mark a creature within 30 feet for suffering, using your Channel Divinity. Your target gains a level of exhaustion. Additionally, once per turn when you use use your Divine Smite feature on this target, you can expend a hit die to inflict additional levels of exhaustion. You can only inflict up to 5 levels of exhaustion with this feature. After 1 minute or when it drops to 0 hit points or falls unconscious, all levels of exhaustion caused by this feature are removed.

Indomitable Hunter. When you fail a saving throw forced by another creature, you can use a reaction and choose to succeed instead, using your Channel Divinity. Additionally, when you use this feature, you can expend hit dice to gain temporary hit dice equal to the dice rolled. You can expend a number of hit dice equal to half of your proficiency modifier.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Oath of the Extinguished Flame Spells

Aura of Agony

Starting at 7th level, your aura causes creatures of your choice to experience their trauma again. All creatures of your choice within 10 feet of you take an additional 1d4 psychic damage whenever they are hit by an attack. Additionally, when they receive hit points, you can choose to reduce the number of hit points they receive by half. This does not affect temporary hit points or similar effects.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Consign to Oblivion

Beginning at 15th level, you learn the banishment spell and can cast this spell once as a 4th level spell without expending a spell slot. Once you cast this spell using this feature, you can cast it additional times using spell slots. You regain the ability to cast this spell without using a spell slot upon finishing a long rest.

In addition, when you successfully banish a creature with banishment or a similar spell like banishing smite, you can restore hit dice equal to your charisma modifier (minimum of 1).

Aspect of Suffering

At 20th level, as an action, you can assume the form of dread. For 1 minute, bright light within 30-feet is reduced to dim light.

You gain a +3 to attack and damage rolls with melee attacks and you gain an additional weapon attack when you take the attack action.

Also, when you score a critical hit on a melee attack, you drain Strength from the target. Roll a 1d4, the target's Strength score is reduced by the number on the die and yours is increased by the same amount. If this drain reduces the target’s Strength to 0, it dies. Otherwise, the drain lasts until the target finishes a short or long rest.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
