Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Many wizards devote their time and talents to mastering one of the eight schools of magic. In this way they become savants of their chosen field. You, however, take a broader approach to magical study. You recognize the value of interplay between the forces of the Weave. The complexities of manipulating the arcane are parsed down to schools to help the uninitiated understand something of what you do; however you realize that the boundaries between schools can become somewhat mutable. You have forgone studying the deepest lore and uncovering the minutiae that interests your colleagues. Instead you take a broader perspective. You believe that it is better to be equipped with a wide variety of knowledge as opposed to mastery of a single domain.

General Knowledge

Starting at 2nd level you gain proficiency in the Arcana skill if you do not already have it. You add double your proficiency bonus to Intelligence (Arcana) checks.

Weave Awareness

At 2nd level, you have learned a little about the nature of magic and have begun to notice the similarities between spells of the same school. You have grasped something about the fluidity of the Weave that enables you to understand spells adjacent to those you have memorized.

You can spend 10 minutes reviewing your spellbook, which you must have at hand. After you have spent these 10 minutes reviewing your spellbook you may exchange a number of spells you have memorized for the day with other spells from your spellbook. You can exchange a number of spells whose total spell levels are equal to or less than your Wizard level. For example, at 2nd level you can exchange up to two 1st-level spells. At 3rd level you can exchange one 2nd-level spell and one 1st-level spell, or three 1st-level spells. The spells you substitute in must be of the same level as the spells you substitute out.

Once you use this ability, you cannot do so again until you complete a short or long rest.

Arcane Instinct

Starting at 6th level, your study of magic has helped you understand the power that drives arcane spellcasting. You have studied the art of arcane casting and are able to anticipate its effects. You add the spell Counterspell to your spellbook if you do not already have it. This does not count against the two spells you may add to your spellbook by leveling. As a reaction you may cast this spell at 3rd-level without expending a spell slot. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier. All expended uses are regained after a long rest.

You may still cast Counterspell using spell slots as normal.

Broadened Horizons

Beginning at 10th level, whenever you add a spell of 1st-level or higher to your spellbook by gaining a level you may choose one of your spells from the Bard, Sorcerer, or Warlock spell lists. The spell you choose must be of a level which you can learn and cannot be a Cantrip. As you level if you choose to replace this spell you must replace it with a spell from the same spell list, or from the Wizard spell list.

Arcane Mitigation

At 14th level, your knowledge of magic theory has allowed you to recognize ways to circumvent the dangers of magically empowered foes. You have advantage on saving throws against spells and spell like effects.

Additionally, if you are the only target of a spell or spell like effect which requires a saving throw (single target, area of effect, or other) and you succeed on your saving throw, you take no damage and suffer no ill effects. If you are the only target of a spell or spell like effect of 4th level or below and you succeed on your saving throw you are able to siphon some of the magic used against you. You regain one spell slot equal to the spell slot of the level of the spell or spell like effect. You can siphon magic this way a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier. You regain any expended uses of this feature after a long rest.
