Base Class: Artificer
A pyrotechnician is more than just a demolition specialist. These artificers see explosions as more than just a reaction, they see them as tools to propel and create wonders. But explosions, no matter what form they take, are dangerous.
Tools of the Trade
3rd-level Pyrotechnician feature
You gain proficiency with alchemist's supplies. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice.
Pyrotechnician Spells
3rd-level Pyrotechnician feature
You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Pyrotechnician Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Firework Launcher
3rd-level Pyrotechnician feature
You gain the knowledge to craft a portable launcher that can be affixed to your body. You can use an action to use your Alchemist Supplies to magically produce your Firework Launcher. The Firework Launcher can be used as a spellcasting focus.
You can also use the Firework Launcher as a weapon. It is a ranged weapon that deals 1d8 fire damage. You are proficient with it, and it adds your Intelligence modifier to attack and damage rolls.
Unstable Firework
3rd-level Pyrotechnician feature
Whenever you finish a long rest, you can magically create a number of unstable fireworks equal to your proficiency modifier. You can use an attack action to launch an unstable firework at one target a number of feet equal to 20 times your proficiency bonus. Roll an attack against one creature using your Firework Launcher. On a hit, roll on the Unstable Firework table for the firework’s effect.
You can create additional unstable fireworks by expending a spell slot of 1st level or higher for each one.
Creating an unstable firework requires you to have alchemist’s supplies on your person, and any firework you create with this feature lasts until it is used or until the end of your next long rest.
Unstable Firework
| d6 | Effect |
|---|---|
|
1 |
Explode. The target takes 2d4 + your Intelligence modifier fire damage. |
|
2 |
Glue. The target’s speed is reduced by 10 feet for 1 hour. |
|
3 |
Corrode. The target’s AC is reduced by 2 for 1 minute. |
|
4 |
Miasma. The target must roll a d4 and subtract the number rolled from every attack roll and saving throw they make for the next minute. |
|
5 |
Glow. Attacks against the target have advantage until the end of your next turn. |
|
6 |
Ricochet. The firework bounces off the first target towards another target. Make a spell attack against the first target, dealing 2d6 bludgeoning damage on a hit. Then, roll again on this table, targeting another creature within 30 feet of the original target. |
Extra Attack
5th-level Pyrotechnician feature
You can attack twice, rather than once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.
Burning Fireworks
9th-level Pyrotechnician feature
You learn how to add a burning agent to all of your unstable fireworks, increasing their damage potential. When you use an unstable firework, the target erupts in flames, taking 1d6 fire damage at the start of each of their turns for one minute. They can use an action to put out the flames.
Additionally, you can cast Pyrotechnics without expending a spell slot and without preparing the spell, provided you use your firework launcher as the spellcasting focus. You can do so a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once), and regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Firework Mastery
15th-level Pyrotechnician feature
Your failed fireworks have blown up in your face so many times that you’ve gotten used to it. You gain immunity to fire damage.
Additionally, you can cast Immolation without expending a spell slot, and without preparing the spell, provided you use your firework launcher as a spellcasting focus. Once you cast the spell with this feature, you can’t cast it again until you finish a long rest.
