Base Class: Monk
A monk that follows the way of the storm is like the storm itself, unpredictable and always on the move. They are like the lightning, a precise strike. Like the thunder, a heavy hit. And just like the storm, they are nearly unstoppable when in their full might. A monk that follows this way uses his ki to invoke some of the storm's most powerful effects.
Lightning Speed
At 3rd level, you have learned to act and move with exceptional speed, granting you the following benefits:
- You can add your wisdom modifier to your initiative rolls (min. of +1).
- If you move more than half your speed on your turn without stoping to move, opportunity attacks made against you have disadvantage.
- Difficult terrain does not slow you down.
Thunderous Strike
At 6th level, you can strike with the power of thunder. When you use your flurry of blows feature, you can choose to spend 1 additional ki point to add 1d6 damage to each successful attack that you make until the end of the current turn. This extra damage changes to 1d8 at 11th level and 1d10 at 17th level.
Avatar of Lightning
At 11th level, you can use your bonus action to assume the form of the avatar of lightning. You can enter it as part of using your flurry of blows, and it lasts for one minute or until you are incapacitated. While the form is active, your eyes glow like lightning, and your body is surrounded by small electric sparks.
While in this form, flurry of blows now allows you to make three unarmed strikes as a bonus action. Also, your deflect missiles feature now allows you to deflect melee weapon attacks as well. If you reduce the damage of a melee weapon attack to 0, you can choose to disarm your opponent. You can catch the weapon if you have a free hand, otherwise it lands at your feet.
Once the form has ended, you cannot enter it again until you finish a long rest, unless you spend 3 ki points.
Wrath of the Storm
At 17th level, you can harness the wrath of the storm to strengthen yourself. While you are in your avatar of lightning form, you now also have the following benefits:
Your whole body glows with light, emitting bright light in a 5ft radius and dim light for an additional 5ft. Also, once per turn you can chose to replace one of your attacks with a thunderous stomp that shakes the ground in a 10ft radius around you. Each creature in this area has to make a Strength saving throw against your Ki save DC. On a failure, they are knocked prone and take 2d8 thunder damage. On a success, they only take half damage and are not knocked prone. The thunder can be heard from up to 300 ft away. The area you have stomped is difficult terrain for the duration of your avatar of lightning form.
Once you have used this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest, unless you spend 5 ki points.
