Blood Hunter
Base Class: Blood Hunter

The Order of the Shadows is one of the oldest, originating from those who studied both hemocraft and curses to perfection. These members have been born with an odd affinity to the shadows and darkness around them. This affinity at first an odd trait, but now a form of power granted from weaving their studies together in pursuit of something more. These members seek out to destroy the imbalances between the light and dark forces of the world by summoning the shadows themselves to fight for them. They fight in the darkness never seeking the attention of others, but the evil truth of these beings lay in legends in the darkest corners of the world. Members of this order must leave behind their families and identity, most members of this order wear a mask to hide their faces, and to let their enemies see what a true nightmare is as they wait in their shadows.

Rite of the Shades

When you join this order at 3rd level, you learn the Rite of the Shades as part of your Crimson Rite feature. When you activate the Rite of the Shades , the extra damage dealt by your rite is Necrotic damage. Additionally, while that rite is active on your weapon, you gain the following benefits:

  • Your can see in darkness or magical darkness up to 120 feet.
  • When you hit a creature in dim light or darkness with a weapon for which the Rite of the Shade is active, you roll an additional hemocraft die when determining the extra damage from the rite.

Summon Shadows

Beginning at 3rd level, you learn how to manipulate your hemocraft magic to summon an incarnation of darkness that follow your orders. As a bonus action you can invoke your shadow magic to create a creature of darkness similar to the Summon Shadowspawn spell (refer to it for the stats and abilities of this creature). This counts as a spell for the purposes of dispel magic, and the spell level is equal to half of your blood hunter level (maximum of 9th level spell). The spell attack modifier and spell save dc equal 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier. Your Shadowspawn can also add your proficiency bonus to its saving throws and Armor Class.

In addition if you rite one of your weapons, the shadowspawn also gains the benefits of the Crimson Rite and the Rite of Shades feature while the rite is active. The shadowspawn however, doesn't disappear until it is reduced to 0 hit points, until you use this feature to summon the shadowspawn again or until you die. The shadows health also increases by an amount equal to five times your Blood Hunter level.

You can use this ability twice per long rest and regain all expended uses after a long rest.

Dark Aura

Upon reaching 7th level, you can as an action cause the shadows around you to stir and shift as you create a 20 feet aura around you of darkness to form. For the next minute, or until you become incapacitated, magical darkness is formed around you. While you have this aura up, if your Shadowspawn is currently up, it also creates its own aura of darkness, until it dies. While you are in this darkness with your summon, you gain the benefits of its resistances. At 13th level you gain the benefits of its condition immunities.

Your magical darkness can be dispelled with dispel magic, or a spell that creates sunlight and is treated as a spell with a level equal to half your blood hunter level (maximum 9th level) for the purposes of dispelling it with sunlight or dispel magic.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Upon reaching 11th level, if you aren’t incapacitated, you can use a bonus action to magically teleport from one area of dim light or darkness, to another that you can see within 120ft of you.

Brand of Subjugation

Beginning at 15th level, level your Brand of Castigation now subjects your enemies to the fear of their nightmares, leaving them unable to defend against your shadow's attacks. Whenever a branded creature is attacked by the shadowspawn it adds an additional hemocraft die from the active rite when determining the extra damage and it heals off of that additional damage as well.

Ruler of Darkness

At 18th level, you can now make your Shadow the king of all shadows, as you stand on the top as ruler of all within your grasp. When you summon the shadowspawn  it can become a huge sized creature. It can twist its shape and lower its size if you or it so chooses. You and your Shadowspawn gain all the resistances, immunities, and conditional immunities a Shadow (Can be found in the monster manual) has. However, you lose these benefits while you are in direct sunlight.

Blood Curse of the Nightmares

You have honed your hemocraft to truly create a nightmare for your foes to fear. You gain the Blood Curse of the Nightmares for your Blood Maledict feature. This doesn’t count against your number of blood curses known.
