Base Class: Sorcerer
Ages ago, a now forgotten goddess of ice and rimefire was felled by her demonic rival. Pieces of her divinity coalesced in massive icebergs as Rimefire Eidolons. Rimefire is a mysterious magical substance: it shimmers and dances with the colors of aurora borealis, both burning and freezing all it touches.
Time hasn't been kind to these remnants; the faith is all but gone, and few mortals even know of the existence of rimefire. These eidolons now bond with any who have the ability to channel them. You are one such person.
You may have made this partnership out of a genuine interest in finding a way to resurrect this dead goddess. Or, you could just be interested in the power of rimefire, using a divine endling to further your studies. Your bond could have even been forged out of a moment of mutual desperation.
Frostfall Spells
1st-level Rimefire Witch feature
You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Frostfall Spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.
Frostfall Spells
| Sorcerer Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 1st | burning hands, color spray, ray of frost |
| 3rd | scorching ray, spike growth (which appears as ice spikes, and is hidden on snowy or icy terrain) |
| 5th | fireball, hypnotic pattern |
| 7th | cone of cold, immolation |
| 9th | freezing sphere, wall of ice |
Rimefire Magic
1st-level Rimefire Witch feature
The bond you forged with the Rimefire Eidolon grants you the ability to use rimefire in your magic. When you cast a spell that deals cold or fire damage, you can make it a rimefire spell. Rimefire spells treat half their damage as fire damage, and the other half as cold damage.
In addition, you can add your Charisma modifier to one damage roll of rimefire spells.
Rimefire Bond
6th-level Rimefire Witch feature
You can manifest the rimefire eidolon that is bound to your soul. The eidolon appears in an unoccupied space of your choice adjacent to you.
The eidolon is friendly to you and your companions and obeys your commands. See this creature’s game statistics in the Rimefire Eidolon stat block, which uses your proficiency bonus (PB) in several places. You determine the eidolon’s appearance. Some take the form of a humanoid figure made of shimmering blue and violet flames, while others look like rime-covered beasts found in the North.

Rimefire Bolt. Ranged Weapon Attack: your spell attack modifier to hit, range 60 ft., one target you can see. Hit: 1d6 + PB rimefire damage.
In combat, the eidolon shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. The only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. If you are incapacitated, the eidolon can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge.
The eidolon heals a number of hit points equal to your Charisma modifier an hour while it is not manifested. It can be healed normally by healing spells, and you can also heal it by spending a spell slot, the amount healed being equal the the spell slot times three. If you are targeted by a healing effect while the rimefire eidolon is adjacent to you, or it is not manifested, it heals a number of hit points equal to the amount you healed.
In addition, when you cast a spell with a range other than self, the spell can originate from you or your rimefire eidolon.
Frostfall Resistance
6th-level Rimefire Witch feature
You gain resistance to cold and fire damage. You can can move across difficult terrain created by ice or snow without spending extra movement.
Frostburn
14th-level Rimefire Witch feature
Your rimefire grows more potent. Rimefire spells you cast ignore fire and cold resistance. In addition, your eidolon's Rimefire Bolt attack ignores fire and cold resistance.
Rimefire Apotheosis
18th-level Rimefire Witch feature
You have fully incorporated rimefire into yourself, granting you numerous powers. You gain immunity to fire and cold damage, and a flying speed of 50 ft. Your eidolon's flying speed also increases to 50 ft. Rimefire spells you cast treat fire or cold immunity as resistance, chosen when you cast the spell. Your eidolon's Rimefire Bolt treats both fire and cold immunity as resistance.

Posted Aug 31, 2022I've been going over old 3e stuff, and the old Rimefire Witch caught my eye. I've done my best to fit it into the current game-state while keeping the feel how it was before.
