Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

A warlock's magic is the magic of connection. A special connection is shared by the power of a wizard and his spell book, one that often goes unnoted by practitioners of the arcane. A wizard's mark is indelibly left upon his spell book, and that changes the spell book in a special way. The book permanently animates, and is able to give it's magic to other people connected to the previous owner of the spell book. Arcane creations like golems, apprentices that learn from the scrolls penned by the wizard in question. Even those without knowledge of the wizard can be drawn into the nexus of magic inherent in the awakened spell book, a connection formed when someone who attunes to a magic item or are affected by a spell by the original wizard.

The waves of magic that ripple in response to a master of magic practicing his craft greatly extends far past the spells he casts. An awakened spell book can develop it's own personality and goals, but it typically seeks the same goals that the one who penned it's pages, and asks much of its patrons to make these goals so. An awakened spell book may seek more magic to add to it's own, to make a dangerous wish come true, or simply for the universe to bend to it's will and follow it's precepts, like The Book of Exalted Deeds or The Book of Vile Darkness. A careless wizard may even not know of the machinations of his own spell book, and a clever lich who has outstripped his past spell books may try to manipulate an awakened spell book to entice unfortunate souls to be consumed.

Regardless of it's purpose, an awakened spell book takes mage-craft to a level that extends past the limits of the regular magic inherent spells, and is able to grant boons that other powerful patrons can grant. They make their reserves of magic available for patrons to make events happen that spells alone cannot accomplish.

Invested Spell Book

You can spend one hour, which can be taken as part of a short rest, and create a pact spell book out of any book, which renders the book capable of holding spells temporarily. If you later gain the Pact of the Tome, your may make your Book of Shadows your pact spell book when you summon it.

As an action, you may select a spell on the warlock spell list that you can cast using your Pact Magic feature. This spell doesn't expend a spell slot, and is cast at it's lowest level.

You store this spell in your pact spell book, expending any required components when you do so. As an action, you can expend this spell without spellcasting components within the next 8 hours, provided you are holding your pact spell book. You many use this feature once per long rest, gaining additional uses at 11th level and 20th level.

Master of the Word

At 1st level, you also learn the minor illusion cantrip, and you can perfectly replicate magical script that you have seen within the last week using this cantrip.

Willing creatures that see this script are imbued with understanding from your connection to your patron, and their time spent for transcribing, studying, committing to memory, or casting spells associated with the conjured script is halved, to a minimum time of 1 action.

Magical script includes spell books, spell scrolls, teleportation circle runes, glyphs of warding, spell glyphs, or the symbol and illusory script spells. Replicating the script does not replicate the effects of any magical item or spell that you create using the minor illusion cantrip.

You gain proficiency in calligrapher's supplies and forgery kits.

Psyche Assault

Whenever a creature within 30 feet of you makes an Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma saving throw, you may use your reaction to roll 1d4 and subtract the total from the saving throw, before the result is announced. You regain use of this feature after a short or long rest.

Adaptive Barrier

When you take damage from a spell, you may use your reaction to gain resistance to the damage from that spell.

Using this reaction enables you to deflect oncoming spells during the round. You may decide to empower the adaptive barrier, and when you do, the next spell cast by a hostile creature within 30 feet of you must succeed an spellcasting ability check against your warlock spell save DC, their spell being absorbed harmlessly into your barrier on a failure. This effect lasts until the start of your next turn.

You may empower your barrier a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining the ability to do so when you complete a long rest.

Improved Mystic Arcanum

Your patron bestows upon you the pinnacle of spell craft, with spells that are the envy of any magic user. You may replace your arcanum spells with wizard spells of equivalent level, and have those spells count as warlock spells for you. If you would later select an arcanum spell, you may select those arcanum spells from the wizard spell list, and have your chosen spell count as a warlock spell for you.

(In builder, simply choose your Mystic Arcanum if you choose from the warlock list or choose a spell from Improved Mystic Arcanum if you want to choose from the wizard list.)
