Base Class: Barbarian
Whether by birth or by curse, there are some creatures in this world burdened by a powerful, overwhelming hunger for the lifeblood of other living things. For those who walk the path of the bloody fang, their hunger is the source of the rage that drives them to perform incredible feats of strength and courage. Some chose to use this power for their own gain, to hunt with impunity and drink more than their fill. Others, however, put aside their own needs and turn their curse into a blessing for other creatures, fighting for virtuous causes with the strength born of their anger at the world.
Twisted by the hunger that powers them as it grows stronger with every use, these barbarians often walk a fine line between brave hero and reckless killer. Without blood, they grow weak. If they indulge too often, they can better fight alongside their allies, but they risk a fate far worse than death. Bloodlust corrupts them in both body and mind, and a truly corrupted follower of this path is a monster to be feared.
Hunger and Wrath
Starting at the 3rd level, your hunger and bloodlust become nearly indistinguishable while you rage. The first time you make a melee attack on each turn during your rage, deal 1d6 extra necrotic damage and gain the same amount of temporary hit points. These last until the start of your next turn. The additional damage and corresponding temporary hit points increase to 2d6 at 7th level, 3d6 at 11th level, 4d6 at 15th level and 5d6 at 19th level.
All-Consuming Thirst
Also at 3rd level, you are sustained by blood instead of by ordinary means. When you engage in combat or other acts of violence, you can ignore that day's necessary minimum food and water requirements.
Moonlight Hunter
When you reach the 6th level, your body becomes optimised from hunting your prey through absolute darkness. You gain the following benefits:
- Your unarmed strikes deal 1d4 (+ Str) piercing damage
- You have an improved darkvision range of 120 feet
- Your speed increases by 10 feet when in darkness
- You have advantage on Survival checks to track or hunt living creatures
The Smell of Blood
At 10th level, you gain an inherent sense for living things within 60 feet of you, especially those that are injured.
Your Danger Sense ability is now improved so that you can dodge effects coming from sources you cannot see, as long as the source has a heartbeat and is within the radius of your blood sense. As such, this ability now continues to function even if you become deafened or blinded. This new sense also grants you special skill in avoiding attacks from severely injured creatures. If an enemy with below a quarter of its maximum hit points remaining tries to attack you, you have a +5 bonus to your AC and can use a reaction to make an unarmed strike against them.
Fury of the Starving
From 14th level, you can allow your hunger to consume you once per rage in exchange for unleashing a devastating attack upon your enemies. As an action while raging, chose one of the following attacks to make:
Life Drinker. Chose any number of creatures within a 60-foot radius to be exempt from this attack. Every other creature within this range must make a Charisma saving throw (DC 8 + Constitution modifier + proficiency). Each creature takes 10d6 necrotic damage on a failed save or half that number on a successful save.
Bloodlust. Make a melee attack against one creature within range. Instead of the weapon's normal damage, this attack deals 10d6 slashing damage as you attack them with a flurry of ten overwhelming blows. Add your Strength modifier to damage ten times, once for each attack made.
Beast Bite. You bite one creature within 5 feet of you with all your strength, dealing 8d6 piercing damage to your target. They are frightened of you for the rest of your rage, and this attack always hits, unless blocked by the shield spell.
You regain half of the damage dealt by any of these attacks as temporary hit points, which last until the end of your rage. After your rage and the combat encounter have ended, however, the strength of your thirst begins to take its toll on your body. You gain one level of exhaustion, and both your Wisdom and Constitution scores cannot rise above 12 during this time. As well as by taking a long rest, you can also remove these effects by consuming a litre of fresh blood.
