Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Few things in life are as strong and capable as emotions. They are the driving factors behind every action an individual takes, whether good or evil, positive or negative. Empaths are sorcerers who can discern and manipulate the emotions of others with an incredible ease. They can even use raw emotional energy as a source for their magic, drawing it from the feelings of themselves and those around them.

As an empath, your emotional state is truly unique and has led to you manifesting certain quirks and peculiar traits. Roll on the Empath Quirks Table below, or come up with your own!

Empath Quirks Table

D6 Quirks
1 Your mood can change at the drop of a hat.
2 You wear a mask to hide your true emotions, preferring to keep them secret.
3 You often have sudden emotional outbursts after casting a spell.
4 Whenever a friend is displaying clear emotions, you subconsciously begin feeling the same emotions.
5 Your emotions magically manifest without your control; illusory steam shoots out of your ears when you’re angry, rain clouds appear above you when you’re sad, etc.
6 You can react wildly to emotional situations, causing you to express the wrong emotion at certain times; laughing during a funeral, crying after a joke, etc.

True Empath

Beginning at 1st level, you can read the emotions of others like a book. You gain proficiency in the Wisdom (Insight) and Charisma (Persuasion) skills. You have advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks made to discern a creature's emotional state.

Emotional Magic

At 1st level, you’ve learnt how to innately cast certain magical spells related to manipulating and reading emotions. You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Empath Spells table. Each spell counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.

Empath Spells
SORCERER LEVEL SPELLS
1st heroism, hideous laughter, vicious mockery
3rd calm emotions, detect thoughts
5th beacon of hope, fear
7th confusion, compulsion
9th telepathic bond, modify memory

Invoke Memory

Also at 1st level, you’ve learnt how to manifest memories tied to strong emotions in the form of illusory scenes. As an action, you can summon an illusory scene depicting a memory of yours in a 30-foot cube within 60 feet of you. The memory scene lasts for 1 minute, until you are killed, or until you choose to dismiss it (requires no action by you). When you do so, choose one of the following options:

Joyous Memory. The memory you manifest invigorates and bolsters your allies. Creatures of your choice within the area of the illusory scene have advantage on saving throws to resist being frightened or charmed, and gain temporary hit points equal to your Charisma modifier at the beginning of each of its turns.

Sorrowful Memory. The memory you manifest demoralizes your enemies. Creatures of your choice within the area of the illusory scene have their movement speed reduced by 10 feet and must subtract your Charisma modifier from any ability checks or attack rolls they make.

You can use this feature once per long rest.

Emotional Onslaught

At 6th level, you can overload the limbic system of your foes to mess with their minds and emotions. Whenever you cast a sorcerer spell, you can spend 1 sorcery point to change the spell’s damage type to psychic damage. If a spell’s target is standing within the area of an illusory scene created by your Invoke Memory feature when you do so, it takes additional psychic damage equal to your Charisma modifier.

Gallery of Emotion

Also at 6th level, you’ve gained the ability to swiftly alter the memories you manifest. While your Invoke Memory feature is active, you can use your bonus action and spend 1 sorcery point to swap the current illusory scene for another.

Invoke Greater Memory

At 14th level, the emotional memories you can manifest have grown even more potent. You gain the following new options for your Invoke Memory feature:

Dreadful Memory. The memory you manifest haunts your enemies. Creatures of your choice within the area of the illusory scene take psychic damage equal to your Charisma modifier at the beginning of each of their turns and have disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws.

Furious Memory. The memory you manifest imbues your allies with a heightened ferocity. Creatures of your choice within the area of the illusory scene add your Charisma modifier to the damage of any attacks they make or spells they cast, and score critical hits on a 19 or 20.

Bastion of Emotion

At 18th level, your mind and emotional state is as fortified as a sturdy bastion. You have advantage on saving throws made against enchantment spells, and are immune to the charmed and frightened conditions.
