Base Class: Wizard
As a member of the School of Elementalism you focus your study of magic on the primal energies of the elemental planes of fire, earth, water, and air; and the creatures who call them home. Rather than ripping elementals from their homes and imposing your will over their own; you instead choose to study and gain understanding of them, forming a bond.
Followers of this tradition are known as Elementalists. You seek to forge bonds with like-minded denizens of the elemental planes, striking deals of mutual benefit or building bonds of friendship. Using this connection you learn to harness and wield the raw power of the elements, and to gain greater understanding of the elements and their places within the world of magic.
Your Bond
This Arcane Tradition was designed to offer an option for Wizards to summon sentient creatures without taking control of them and subverting their will. Your bond is what sets you apart from a normal conjurer. Will you strike a deal with a like-minded Mephit and work with him towards a greater goal? Gaining access to more elemental allies along the way? Will you instead try to befriend as many as possible, and through them grow even greater friendships towards more powerful elemental allies? Will you draw up contracts or perform specifics tasks and favors for a return in kind. Building a ledger of elemental clients, favors, debts, owed and paid? Your Bond defines who you are as an Elementalist. Think carefully on the relationship you wish to have with your elementals, whether it be a working relationship, a true friendship, or any other such relationship. Use this relationship to help guide you when creating your Elementalist and their goals.
Elemental Familiar
Starting at 2nd level, you learn the find familiar spell, it doesn't count against your number of spells known, and you can cast it once without expending a spell slot or material components. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.
When you cast the spell, you can choose one of the following special forms: Mud Mephit, Smoke Mephit, Steam Mephit, Dust Mephit, Ice Mephit, or Magma Mephit. This mephit shares your alignment and shares at least one language proficiency with you.
Additionally, when you take the Attack action, you can forgo your own attack to allow for your mephit to make one of its own attacks instead, using its reaction.
Elemental Summoner
Starting at 6th level, you learn the summon elemental spell, it doesn't count against your number of spells known, and you can cast it once without expending a spell slot or material components. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.
Additionally, when you cast the spell using this feature the duration is extended up to 8 hours, as long as you continue to maintain concentration the entire time.
Primal Empowerment
Starting at 10th level your mastery of the primal energies within the elemental planes has given you the ability to empower your elemental allies bolstering them and making them more potent.
Whenever you create an elemental using the find familiar, conjure minor elementals, summon elemental, or conjure elementals spells, it has additional benefits:
- The creature's hit point maximum is increased by an amount equal to your wizard level.
- The creature adds your proficiency bonus to all of its damage rolls.
- All damage it deals is considered magical for the purpose of overcoming immunity and resistance to nonmagical attacks and damage.
Elemental Binder
Starting at 14th level, your bond with your elemental allies has grown enough to allow you to permanently bind an elemental to this plane of existence.
You can spend 8 hours and 500 gold worth of iron or steel to bind an elemental of your choice within a suit of magical armor. Choose one of the following: Air Elemental Myrmidon, Earth Elemental Myrmidon, Fire Elemental Myrmidon, or Water Elemental Myrmidon. The Elemental Myrmidon becomes a permanent companion, allied to you, that persists without concentration until its death.
You can have only one myrmidon at a time. If you use this feature while your myrmidon lives, the ritual fails.
