Base Class: Barbarian
A bare-chested man disappears in a flash of starry light before appearing above a stone monument and leaps, swinging his vicious weapons down with lethal velocity. A proud woman, her face and hair painted with the blood of her enemies, lets out a bellowing roar scattering the remaining enemies foolish enough to face her still. A wounded figure is surrounded, foes approach with deadly intent, before the wounded warrior gains a second wind, suddenly growing with primordial magic, towering over their foes, a veritable giant on the battlefield!
These are barbarians of the Path of the Forestslayer. Deep in the ancient past there exists a mysterious, primeval forest called the Traxian Forest, where many sages claim all other forests come from and are still connected to. Those sensitive to the natural world sometimes sense the presence of a peaceful—even gentle— enigmatic being known as the Forestmaster, at the edges of their perception. Although superficially resembling an impossibly tall cyclops, the Forestmaster is something far more potent and magical. Some believe it to be a being left over from the creation of the cosmos and the world, others say the Forestmaster was just a person, who wandered too deep into the intractable woods in some ancient epoch. Many people refuse to believe it exists, claiming it is a cautionary tale about wandering too far into the dark woods. Whatever its origin, those few mortals who claim to have encountered the Forestmaster claim it is one with the natural world, not holding dominion, but rather existing as a mirror. Like nature itself, it can become intensely powerful and even destructive if provoked to rage. Those who either seek, or are found by the Forestmaster report that it feels a deep reverence toward the holy nature of a hero's quest and, if petitioned do do so, shares something of itself with those who find it. By pricking its own skin to make a blood oath with a mortal, the Forestmaster lets its essence enter the barbarian through a similarly self-inflicted wound, and the barbarian returns home a changed, and more powerful person.
Traxian Blood
3rd-level Path of the Forestmaster feature
Beginning at 3rd level when you follow this path, you gain resistance to psychic damage. You also gain the ability to cast the druidcraft cantrip at will and the entangle spell a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier, regaining expended uses upon finishing a long rest. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for this spell, since your magic comes from the potency of the Forestmaster's blood now flowing in your veins.
Forest's Stride
6th-level Path of the Forestmaster feature
Beginning at 6th level, each time you enter a rage, you can cast misty step on yourself once before your rage ends. Just as the Forestmaster exists at the border of one's perception in the deep forest, so too can you stride through the woods.
Primordial Bellow
10th-level Path of the Forestmaster feature
Beginning at 10th level, while you're raging, any time you take damage from an attack by a creature within 30 feet of you that you can see, you can use your reaction to release a primordial bellow at it. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw, the DC of which equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier, or the target becomes frightened of you for 1 minute. If the target is already frightened, it becomes stunned instead. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s save is successful or the effect ends for it, it is immune to your bellow for 24 hours.
Cyclopean Rage
14th-level Path of the Forestmaster feature
Beginning when you reach 14th level, when you enter a rage you can choose to go into a cyclopean rage once per short or long rest. If you do so, your size increases by one category for the duration of your rage. Until your rage ends, your depth perception suffers, giving you disadvantage on ranged attack rolls, but you gain the following benefits:
- You gain temporary hit points equal to your barbarian level that replenish every round.
- Your reach increases by 5 feet.
- You ignore the Heavy and two-handed properties in weapons.
- You deal double damage to objects and structures.
- You may add your Constitution modifier (minimum of +1) to your Rage Damage bonus.
