Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Modern bards study their art.  Their magic is an expression of themselves, and often an elaborate performance of intricate skillful prowess.  But music has existed since long before it became a source of entertainment.  War drums and battle cries once created a symphony on the battlefield.  Bardic magic may find its roots in traditions passed down from generation to generation of warrior.

Barbarians who follow the Primal Path of the Warcryer tap into these innate energies empowered by musical performance and soulful expression as the bare it all on the battlefield.  Their warcries empower allies and strike fear into the hearts of foes.  And although they may find themselves more magically inclined than their brethren on other primal paths, they still fight with the same ferocity and fury as any Barbarian.

Spellcasting

When you reach 3rd Level, you gain the ability to cast spells.

Cantrips. You learn two cantrips: Vicious Mockery and one other cantrip of your choice from the bard spell list. You learn another bard cantrip of your choice at 10 level.

Spell Slots. The Primal Path of the Warcryer Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

For example, if you know the 1st-level spell charm person and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast charm person using either slot.

Spells Known of 1st-level and higher. You know three 1st-level bard spells of your choice, two of which must not have any material components out of the spells on the bard spell list.

The Spells Known column of the Primal Path of the warcryer Spellcasting table shows when you learn more bard spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must not have a material component of your choice, and must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

The spells you learn at 8th, 14th, and 20th level can contain material components.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the bard spells you know with another spell of your choice from the bard spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots, and it must not have a material component, unless you’re replacing the spell you gained at 8, 14, or 20 level.

Spellcasting ability. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for your bard spells, since your magic comes from the heart and soul you pour out from the Performance of your warcries. You use your Charisma whenever a spell refers to your Spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Charisma modifier when Setting the saving throw DC for a bard spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier

Savage Mockery

Starting at 3rd level, when you successfully cast Vicious Mockery, you may choose one of the following additional effects:

  • The affected creature is now also Frightened of you.
  • The affected creature is now also Taunted by you.
  • You gain Advantage in Intimidation checks against the affected creature.

Furious Call

Starting at 6th level, you may consume one use of Rage in place of a 1st-level spell slot when casting spells. You do not enter Rage to cast this spell.

Restoration of Rage uses and Spell Slots still follow normal rules. 2nd Level spell slots and above may not be used in this manner, nor may you consume a 1st-level and a use of Rage to cast a 2nd-level spell.

Enraged Shout

Starting at 10th level, you may cast spells while raging, unless the spell requires Concentration or Material components. Spells that require Concentration or Material components may still only be cast while you are not under the effects of Rage.

Warrior's Call

Starting at 14th level, your fearsome shouts empower your magic, enabling you to shed the Somatic requirements of your spells. As a result, you are able to cast any spells now requiring only Verbal components as a Bonus Action rather than a full Action.
