Base Class: Paladin
Paladins who take the Oath of the Stars, Star Knights, are sworn protectors of the Light, the stars and the life that depends on them, and sworn enemies of the Void, the hungering forces of darkness that lurk beyond, and sometimes between, the stars. Star Knights are respected across Wildspace, as their crusade transcends local politics and conflicts, and they are often the first and last line of defense against the cosmic horrors of the Void. Some see the Star Knights as condescending and aloof, as they never take sides unless forces of the Void are involved. As many a ne’er-do-well has painfully learned though, Star Knights are not so callous as to refuse to take arms against pirate threats or other forces that threaten lives. A Star Knight’s oath is not only to the stars but to the life that grows in their light.
Tenets of the Oath of the Stars
Unity against the Void. There is more than unites us than separates us, and we must focus on that which binds us against the dark. Star Knights must avoid local conflicts and squabbles so that we can be beacons of unity, so that all who see our sigil know that we are trusted allies against our true enemy.
A Light against the Dark. There is a darkness in each of us that can only be kept in place by our light. A Star Knight must stand for good, for life, for light itself against the darkness within and without. We must never waiver against any foe that seeks to darken our lives.
No Light too Dim. A candle banishes the darkness the same as stars. Every light is an act of defiance against the endless void, and is worthy of protection.
No Sacrifice too Great. Should the light fail, the void shall consume everything we hold dear. Life cannot go on without the light, but light can nurture new life. A Star Knight must be willing to make any sacrifice necessary for the greater good, for surely all will be lost without the light.
Channel Divinity
When you take this oath, at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.
Solar Flare: You can use your Channel Divinity to explode with blinding light. As an action, you force each creature of your choice that can see you to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature becomes blinded for 1 minute. The blinded creature can repeat this saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Banish the Darkness: You can use your Channel Divinity to fill yourself with solar energy. As a bonus action, you imbue yourself with pure radiant energy. For 1 minute, all damage you deal becomes radiant energy. Any time you would deal radiant damage, for a reason other than this ability, you deal your Charisma modifier in fire damage. This damage is doubled against aberrations and enemies comprised of darkness.
Aura of Light
Beginning at 7th level, you constantly exude a starlight which you can control. You and friendly creatures within 30 feet of you have resistance to necrotic damage. Unless you choose otherwise, creatures within your aura have disadvantage on stealth checks and cannot benefit from invisibility or illusions.
At 18th level, you can intensify this aura, rendering any number of creatures of your choosing within this aura invisible.
Guardian of Light and Life
Starting at 15th level, smiting your foes fills you with righteous energy. Whenever you deal damage expend a spell slot to use Divine Smite, half of the damage you deal replenishes your Lay on Hands pool.
Solar Champion
At 20th level, you gain the ability to channel starlight to temporarily become a paragon of light. As an action, you burn bright with radiant energy and gain the following benefits for 1 minute:
- Whenever you would take radiant or fire damage, you gain that amount in bonus hit points.
- Whenever you deal radiant damage, any number of creatures within 30ft take half that much damage in fire damage.
- Whenever you deal fire damage, any number of creatures within 30ft take half that much damage in radiant damage.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
