Base Class: Monk
Monks that follow the Way of the Tempest Fist believe that evil should be swept away like debris in a storm. In combat they flow like wind through a forest and strike like bolts of lightning. These monks are trained to use their ki to wreath themselves in lightning, enhancing their fighting prowess and punishing those that would dare strike at them. Unlike many monk traditions, those that follow the Way of the Tempest Fist tend to take a much more active role in world events feeling that the existence of evil creates disharmony in the world.
Form of the Storm
3rd-level Way of the Tempest Fist feature
Your monastery studies the storm, learning the way lightning strikes and replicating this in their martial arts. You know how to speak and read Primordial.
As a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to channel the power of a storm through your body. Whenever you do this you can choose one of the following styles: Lightning Strike style or Lightning Flash style. This form lasts for 10 minutes or until you dismiss it (no action required).
Lightning Strike
- Unarmed attacks or weapon attacks using monk weapons deal lightning damage. Also, increase the range of these attacks by 5 ft.
- Once per turn whenever you hit an enemy with an attack, choose 1 enemy within 5 ft of the target. The new target must make a Dexterity saving throw or take lightning damage equal to a roll from your martial arts die.
Lightning Flash
- Your speed increases by 10 ft and your AC increases by 1.
- Whenever an enemy makes an attack against you, you can use your reaction to give the attacker disadvantage on the attack. You can do this after the attack roll is made but must be before any other calculations are made.
Whirlwind Stride
6th-level Way of the Tempest Fist feature
You learn to move and strike like a twister. Once per round when you hit an opponent with an attack you can spend 1 ki point to push that target 10 ft. You also gain a flying speed of 20 ft until the start of your next turn.
Tempest Toss
11th-level Way of the Tempest Fist feature
Your studies have given you the ability to replicate storms through the projection of ki. As an action you can spend 4 ki points to cast the Storm Sphere spell. When cast this way you do not have to maintain concentration on the spell. You can cast this spell up to a level equal to half your monk level (rounded down) by spending 1 extra ki point per spell level.
Hurricane Style
17th-level Way of the Tempest Fist feature
Your ability to replicate the storm has reached its pinnacle. As a bonus action you can expend 4 ki points to activate the Hurricane style. When using this style you gain the benefits of both Lightning Strike and Lightning Flash styles. Also, whenever you use Flurry of Blows while in this form you can make 3 unarmed strikes instead of 2. If the 3rd strike of your Flurry of Blows strikes your target all creatures of your choice within 10 ft of you must make a Constitution saving throw or take thunder damage equal to 1 roll of your martial arts die on a fail (half damage on a success).
