Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Way of the Shaolin spend a great deal of their time reflecting on themselves, and training their willpower to absolute perfection. They value simplicity over everything else, thus dedicating themselves to the mastery of the quarterstaff. When they're not training their physical body, they're training their mind, forging an unmatchable control over their thoughts and emotions.
Path of the Shaolin
When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your dedication to internal peace leads you to flawlessly control your mind and body. You gain the following benefits:
Peace of Mind. Your mind cannot be easily disturbed because of your rigorous mental training. You gain advantage on any saves that concern your mind, such as against being charmed, being frightened, having your mind read, or potential psychic damage. You also gain resistance against psychic damage.
Qi Stance. You can perfectly channel your thoughts to your muscles, thanks to your physical training. Before attacking with a quarterstaff, you can use a bonus action to spend one ki point and enter Qi Stance, giving yourself advantage on your attack. If you have a multiattack, this advantage counts for all of them.
Continued Focus
At 6th level, your mastery of your mind allows you to keep focus on your stance between attacks, as well as channel your Qi through your quarterstaff.
Qi Stance Deflect. After using your Qi Stance ability, you remain in Qi Stance for the remainder of the round. Until your next turn, you can use your reaction, when targeted by an attack, to spend one ki point and attempt to deflect the attack. Throw a d20, and add your Dex modifier and your proficiency bonus. If your roll is higher than your attacker's, you deflect his attack, giving your allies advantage against your attacker until your next turn.
Channeled Qi. Attacks with your quarterstaff now count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity against nonmagical attacks and damage.
Mastery of the Mind
At 11th level, you have gained a higher mastery of your mind. You gain the following benefits:
Strengthened Will. If you fail a saving throw against an effect regarding your mind, such as being charmed, being frightened or having your mind read, you can spend one ki point to reroll your save.
Stalwart Mind. Your mind is impervious to trauma. You gain immunity to psychic damage.
Empowered Qi Stance. You have learned to imbue your weapon with the power of your mind. When you enter Qi Stance, you can spend additional ki points (up to a maximum of three) to gain a bonus to attack and damage rolls. The bonus equals the amount of ki points you spent. You can also choose to use the bonus on your Qi Stance Deflect roll, instead of on your attacks.
Ultimate Qi Flow
At 17th level, you have succeeded at mastering your mental flow. When you attack an enemy while in Qi Stance, you can spend up to twice your Wis modifier in ki points to deal extra force damage to your opponent. Use a d12 to roll the damage, with the amount of dice depending on the ki points spent. This ability ignores resistance, but not immunity.
