Monk
Base Class: Monk

Like all monks, your ki is your strength, your protection. Way of Tempered Steel monks take this idea to its end. Their ki solidifies as iron armor around their limbs and serves as both armor and weapons. This gives monks of the Way of Tempered Steel great affinity towards fire and lightning as their very skin becomes perfect conduits.

Searing Iron

3rd-level Way of Tempered Steel feature

Your mastery of your ki allows you to harness the powers of your forge. As a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to ignite your limbs. When you do so, each creature of your choice that you can see within 10 feet of you must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take force damage equal to two rolls of your Martial Arts die.

For 1 minute, the iron on your body sears with pure heat. This heat remains for one minute unless you are incapacitated or die. While your iron is searing, you gain the following benefits:

  • You can use your Wisdom modifier in place of your Strength modifier when making Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
  • Your unarmed strikes deal an additional damage die in fire damage.
  • Your flurry of blows pushes enemies back 10ft.

Iron Skin

Your ki is hardened into iron around your skin, granting you additional AC equal to half your proficiency bonus.

At level 11 you also gain additional temporary HP equal to twice your monk level at the end of each long rest.

Hammer Strike

6th level Way of Tempered Steel feature:

You swing down with the might of a master smith in a devastating blow. As an action you may spend 2 ki points to make an attack that, when it connects, deals 4d8 damage and knocks your target prone.

Additionally, if you target a structure, this attack automatically crits and deals maximum damage.

Spirit Steel

11th level Way of Tempered Steel feature:

Your iron flakes away to reveal pure steel radiating with your ki. This steel becomes an arcane shield which allows you to reduce energy based damage by 2d10+WIS as a reaction. Additionally, spell attacks that use the energy affected by your shield can now be affected by your deflect missiles feature.

Tempering Steel

17th-level Way of Tempered Steel feature:

As an action, you can use 9 ki points to activate your tempering steel. Your steel reaches the apex of its hardness, but that leaves it incredibly brittle. You make up to 9 attacks in the blink of an eye, each of which has a crit range of 11-20. However, if you roll between a 1-10, your body cracks apart and you take 10d12 un-resistible damage. If you miss you cannot complete the attacks and cannot use this feature until the next morning.

If you make all of the attacks successfully, your target is launched 50ft, and you gain a +7 to your attack and damage rolls until your next long rest.
