Base Class: Rogue
"One cannot invent the solution to everything, for not every problem is one we want solved. Start by inventing something that will make you happy. Then invent something that will make everyone happy. If you're really, really smart, you'll invent something that makes good people happy and bad people sad. That's when you've invented the greatest creation of mankind: Mischief."
- Pascal Martin, Age 14
The greatest thieves, spies and ruffians all had the great minds to think alike on one thing: A spy is nothing without their gadgets. The great Bonjaems Bondt and his dagger shoe. Or the classic poison-tipped umbrella. Your invention, though, is the Heater Hardware, a weapon capable of many things. After every long rest, choose one of four options: A repeating long distance shot, a wide blast shot capable of hitting many enemies, a wormhole device capable of creating two connected gateways to travel through, or a grappling device, capable of pulling objects or people towards you and vice versa. The greatest inventors can create many things, but only you are a master at crafting Mischief.
Heater Hardware
Starting at 3rd level, You receive the Heater Hardware, which allows you to do one of four things. You choose one feature of the Heater Hardware after a long rest. You can use these features 3 times per long rest. At 8th level, this goes up to 4; 5 at 13th, and then 6 at 18th. You recover the ability after a long rest.
Gateway Gun
Place two gateways on two surfaces as large as you. You can pass through either one to wind up on the other side, costing 5ft. of movement. You can only place one of each gateway once per combat. Anybody can use these gateways, including enemies. These portals have HP equal to 2d8 + your proficiency modifier. The number and value of the dice increase at certain levels.
Grapeshot Flintlock
Fire one shot at a maximum range of 15 ft. It deals 1d6 damage at a distance of 15 feet, 2d6 at 10, and 3d6 at 5 feet. Creatures in the cone must make a DEX save equal to 10 + Your DEX + Your Proficiency modifier. It takes full damage on a successful save, and half damage on a failed save.
Rake's Repeater
Fire three sequential shots at a maximum range of 120 ft. Each shot deals 1d6+Your DEX Modifier damage. You use a d20 + DEX + Proficiency modifiers to hit. You roll to hit for each shot individually, and each shot may have a different target.
Spider Cannon
Fire a grappling hook with a range of 120ft. at any surface, object or enemy. If it’s a surface, or the object/enemy is heavier than you, you are pulled towards it, landing within 5ft. of it. If the object or enemy is lighter than you, pull it towards you. Both of these actions cause attacks of opportunity if you or the enemy passes through a player or enemy’s attack range.
Clever Modifications
Starting at 9th level your Heater Hardware has been improved through rigorous trial and error:
- The Rake's Repeater fires one additional shot, and can shoot at a range of 180ft.
- The Grapeshot Flintlock deals an additional 1d6 damage at every listed range. Any creature that fails the saving throw is also blinded until the end of it's next turn.
- Using a bonus action, you may reset the Gateways placed by the Gateway Gun. You may also place Gateways twice per combat, rather than once.
- When you are pulled towards something using the Spider Cannon, you no longer provoke attacks of opportunity.
Alarming Discovery
At 13th level, when you use your Heater Hardware's ability, you may choose one creature within 5ft. of you. You both have advantage on attacks against each other.
Mechanical Madness
At 17th level, you may select two options for your Heater Hardware's abilities.
