Base Class: Druid
On the material plane, the weave flows through all living things. Druids who have discovered this connection have formed circles devoted to the weaves natural occurrences in the wild. The weave is known to condense at certain locations, sometimes creating arcane nodes, which many of these circles can be found. At times the weave can concentrate into spheres of magic floating aimlessly, the druids have named this phenomenon the wellspring, and have mastered locating them and even manipulating them to their will.
Druids of the Weave, Node Druids, Spring Druids, Bush Druids, and Green Druids are all common titles for druids in the circle of the wellspring. Most are notable for their ability to bend the weave to take on shapes other than beasts, typically in the form of intelligent plant life but more masterfully in the form of treants and sprites.
Pocket Weave
2nd-level Circle of the Wellspring feature
You're aware of the natural weave that flows around you, and you have learned to manipulate small pockets of condensed mana as you cast spells. These appear to you in the form of bubbles swirling with raw energy. When you cast a spell, you can use a bonus action to release one of these bubbles, adding an additional affect to your spell. The nature of the raw energy is unpredictable, when you chose to use this feature roll on the Bubble Effect table to see what happens as part of your spell casting. Each effect lasts until the end of your next turn, even if the effect wasn't used by a creature. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all uses after finishing a short or long rest.
Bubble Effect
| d6 | Effect |
|---|---|
| 1 | Spectral Butterflies. Butterflies flow out of the bubble that flutter to a target creature of your choice within 30-feet of you, giving advantage on the next attack roll against that creature as they harass and distract them. |
| 2 | Rampant Growth. The bubble releases raw energy of life in an 10 foot radius sphere centered at a point of unworked stone or open soil you can see within 30-feet of you. Plant life begins to bloom and flourish at a fast pace, creating an area that is considered difficult terrain. All plant type creatures heal an amount equal to your druid level at the start of their turn while inside this radius. |
| 3 | Arcane Cloud. The bubble showers an area in raw magic, creating a glittering cloud in a 5 foot radius sphere centered at a point that you can see within 30-feet of you. The first creature that stands in this area can bolster the potency of their attacks, dealing an additional die of magic damage on their next attack or spell that hits. |
| 4 | Barrier. You choose a creature within 30-feet of you, the bubble creates a protective barrier that shields the creature from harm. That creature gains a +1 bonus to their AC until the end of your next turn. |
| 5 | Elemental Energy. The bubble takes the shape of raw elemental power, you can target one creature you can see within 30-feet of you. That creature gains immunity to one type of damage of your choice until the end of your next turn, choosing from Lightning, Thunder, Poison, Cold, Fire, and Acid. |
| 6 | Wellspring. You absorb the bubbles stored energy, you cast the spell without expending a spell slot. |
Follow the Tether
2nd-level Circle of the Wellspring feature
You are adept at following the traces of magic in the air around you, allowing you to sense traces of magic and life as threads that tether all things to the weave, sometimes to communicate with such creatures connected in this way. You can cast the spell detect magic. At 3rd level, you can cast the locate animals or plants and speak with plants spells. You cast these spells without expending a spell slot or material components. Once you cast one of these spells, you can't do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
Plant Shape
3rd-level Circle of the Wellspring feature
The tether that connects all life to the weave allows you to bend that weave at a basic level. When you use your wild shape feature, you can instead choose to magically assume the shape of a plant creature that you have seen before, such as awakened shrub or shambling mound. Furthermore, you can transform into a plant with a challenge rating as high as your druid level divided by 3, rounded down. The same restrictions for movement speeds still apply, as shown in the Beasts Shapes table for your wild shape feature.
Druid of the Spring
6th-level Circle of the Wellspring feature
You are able to trace the weave in a way that allows you to give intelligence to plants around you. During a long rest you can perform a ritual in which you spend connecting the threads of the weave in this way to a huge or smaller plant of your choice. The ritual takes 8 hours to complete, which is spent meditating and connecting the magical tracings of the weave. At the end of the ritual, you touch the plant and it becomes awakened, it is loyal to you and obeys your verbal commands. In combat, the plant rolls its own initiative. The only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action, unless you verbally command it to take another action, requiring no action by you. If you are incapacitated, the plant can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge. The plant has the statistics of an awakened shrub or awakened tree, depending on the plant that you chose for your ritual. The DM has the game statistics for the plant.
You can only have one plant awakened in this way at a time, if you perform this ritual on another plant, or if the plant dies, you lose connection to the first plant and it is no longer awakened. At 9th level, the spell awaken is added to your list of prepared spells, and it doesn't count against the number of spells you know.
Manaspring
10th-level Circle of the Wellspring feature
You store a wellspring of mana inside you that can be used as an action to regain an expended spell slot of 5th level or lower. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
Additionally, when you take a short rest you can share this wellspring with others. You perform a special ritual over the course of the rest, which takes 1 hour. At the end of the ritual you and up to 5 other creatures of your choice that are within 30 feet of you can take from the wellspring to regain one expended spell slot of 3rd level or lower. You can't perform this ritual again until the next dawn, and after you've finished a long rest.
Grove Guardian
14th-level Circle of the Wellspring feature
You've mastered the ability to bend and shape the weave around you, allowing you assume the form of beings that guard the weave and ancient groves. When you use your wild shape feature, you can instead choose to magically assume the shape of a treant or sprite. Once you use this feature to assume either of these shapes, you can't do so again until you've finished a long rest.
