Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

The Sky Warden is a unique ranger that focuses on the mastery of aerial combat and the protection of the skies. Sky Wardens are guardians of the air, trained to ride the winds, soar among the clouds, and take down any airborne foes that threaten the safety of the world below. These warriors are spiritually bound to their mounts, forming a bond which binds the creatures together. Known for their use of lances, impressive aerial maneuvers and infallible courage, all creatures of air respect or fear the Sky Warden.

Skyborne Steed

At 3rd level, you can form a bond with a Sky Spirit which takes the form of a large flying creature, such as a Pegasus, Griffon, Skyjek Roc or Dragonnel. Your mount shares its initiative count with you, but takes its turn immediately after you. You can move the mount, using the mounts movement speed, during your turn. The only actions your mount can take on its turn is the dodge and help action, unless you take an action on your turn to command it to take another action.

Whenever your bonded mount takes damage, you also take half of the damage. Conversely, whenever you take damage, your mount takes half of the damage. If an effect would target both you and your mount, you can choose to have it only effect you, or only your mount. For example, if you and your mount would both be in the area of effect of the spell fireball, you can choose to exclude either yourself or your mount from its effects.

If an ability or spell would move you, your mount moves with you. You can temporarily dismiss your mount as an action, making it disappear along with its barding as it returns to its spirit form. You can resummon it as an action to make it reappear within 10 feet of you. Anything besides barding that the steed is carrying drops to the ground when it is dismissed.

If your steed dies, you must spend a long rest to resummon it.

Heavenly Joust

At 7th level, you are an expert at maneuvering, able to make the most out of your speed and angle. While you are mounted, the reach of your melee weapons increases by 5 feet, and when you move at least 40 feet before making a successful melee weapon attack, your target must make a Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. The DC for this saving throw is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength or Dexterity modifier.

Aerial Affinity

At 11th level, your bond with your companion grows in strength. You can use a bonus action to order your Skyborne Steed to take one of its actions. You can do this a number of times equal to twice your proficiency bonus, per long rest.

Champion of Skies

At 15th level, as long as you are in the air, you cannot be forcefully dismounted and you have advantage on all saving throws. The flying speed of your Skyborne Steed is increased to 120 ft., and it no longer provokes opportunity attacks when leaving a creatures range.
