Oath of the Guardian

As a paladin of the Oath of the Guardian, your sworn duty is to protect your fellow warriors at all costs. With your unwavering dedication and unbreakable resolve, you stand as a stalwart defender against the forces of darkness that threaten your comrades. Your faith and courage inspire those around you, and your divine power manifests as a shield of righteousness that keeps your allies safe from harm. Whether facing an army of fiends or a single deadly foe, you will be the first to charge into battle, and the last to fall. For you, there is no greater honor than to lay down your life in defense of those who have sworn to fight at your side.

Guardian Tenets

The Oath of the Guardian is focused not only on having faith on its own strength, and to use it to protect your allies, but also in having faith in your own allies themselves.

One for all. As a guardian, your first and foremost duty is to defend the vulnerable and those who cannot defend themselves. Whether they are your fellow soldiers or innocent civilians caught in the crossfire, you will put yourself in harm's way to shield them from danger.

All for one. In order to fulfill your oath, you must place your trust in your fellow warriors. Only by working together as a cohesive unit can you hope to overcome the challenges that lie ahead. Support your allies, lend them your strength, and always be there to pick them up when they fall.

Be strong of will. Even the most skilled warriors will sometimes face defeat. But as a guardian, you cannot allow yourself to succumb to despair in the face of adversity. Learn from your mistakes, redouble your efforts, and remember that your duty to protect others is greater than any personal setbacks.

Keep the faith. You are a beacon of hope and strength to those around you. Trust in your own abilities and in the divine power that guides your hand. With courage and conviction, you will overcome any obstacle and emerge victorious.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed in the Oath of the Guardian Spells table. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how oath spells work.

Oath of the Guardian Spells

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how Channel Divinity works.

Divine Protection. When an enemy hits an attack against you or an ally you can see, you can use your reaction and a spell slot to protect them with a radiant light shield. The damage is reduced in 2d8 + half of your paladin level (rounded down) if the slot spend was of the first level. If the slot used was of the second level or above, the protection increases by 1d8 per level, up to 5d8 + half of your paladin level (rounded down) damage reduction. If this damage was caused by a fiend or an undead, the damage is reduced by an additional 1d8.

Lifesaver. When an ally you can see is reduced to 0 life points, you can, as a reaction, if the player is willing, make them fall to 1 health point instead. Once used, you cannot use this feature again before you make a long rest.

Divine Veil

Starting at 7th level, when you use the features divine smite or channel divinity, a radiant aura pulses in a 10 feet radius around you. This aura protects you and every ally touched by this aura, and in the next minute, the first time each of the affected creatures are attacked or roll a saving throw, they must roll 1d6 and add the rolled number to their AC or saving throw. Regardless of the result, this ability is spent.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Immortal Soul

Starting at 15th level, the Guardian's resolve and divine power becomes so strong, they become an immortal creature.

As soon as they hit this level, the Guardian suffers none of the drawbacks of old age, and can’t be aged magically.

Additionally, if they are targeted by a resurrection spell, it will not have any material cost. Once this feature is used, it cannot be used again for 1d4 days, for its spirit will be recovering after multiple defeats.

Radiant Protector

At 20th level, as an action, the Guardian unleashes all of their power, becoming an avatar or protection. For 10 minutes, their armor starts shining, their skin hardens, and their eyes gain a light golden glow. Additionally, they gain the following benefits:

  • You gain +2 AC.
  • The range of your auras increase to 150ft.
  • You can use your channel divinity feature with the divine protection option, reducing 2d8+10 damage, without spending your channel divinity uses nor any spell slots.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
